Infogrames has put the game/sim on indefinite hold.

Fortunately for me, I couldn't care less, but I feel bad for the open
wheel fans.

Indy Racing 2000 not coming to PC

The screen shots of this game look suspiciously like the game ABC
Interactive Road to the Indy 500 which like this game included both USAC
sprint/midget/silvercrown type racing as well as IndyCars.

Frankly, from what I've seen I'm glad it's not coming to the PC, as it
looked like a very poor job of putting together an IndyCar/IRL sim. Very
arcade indeed.

I'd like to see someone like Ubisoft or even Codemasters put together an
IndyCar sim, if Papyrus/Sierra isn't interested in doing one....

Just my 2 cents...

Those are N64 screens, Jay, not shots from the PC version.  I agree
that it looks suspiciously like the old ABC Indy Racing game, but, then
again, so does Net Race Live, and there's no relationship there.

I hope IMS and the IRL hold Infogrames' feet to the fire on this one --
they (or, rather, GT Interactive) acquired exclusive electronic rights
to the IRL and the Indy 500, and all they can come up with is a lousy
N64 title?  I don't have an N64, so I may be speaking out of turn, but
I view that console as the current bottom rung of the ladder, coming in
dead last behind the current Playstation, Dreamcast, and the upcoming
PS2.  Say what you will about the IRL, but regardless of the politics
going on, Indy deserves far better than this.

Don't feel sorry for open wheel fans.  I tried the PC version of this at
IMS last month when I went to get Ganassi/Montoya's autoraphs and it was
awful.  It was pretty much ABC's RTI with new paintjobs.  A lot of
glitches, and the game crashed quite a bit too...

True open wheel fans don't support the IRL.

Don't support it, or don't even tolerate it?  If it's the latter, then I guess
I'm not a true open wheel fan.  I've only been a racing fan since about 1973.
I like Indy cars, Nascar, Formula 1, & Touring cars.  I even like the IRL.  I'm
*not* happy with the split, I think it's childish, stupid, etc - but it's still
racing.  To deprive myself from watching the racing action just to prove some
mis-guided point would be just as childish and stupid...IMHO...

Don't get me started, because don't want to find myself saying things
I'll regret like, "Candy-ass CART fanboy . . ."

Indy Racing 2000 not coming to PC

IF you want to get technical, here was my original quote regarding
IRL- and CART-bashing:

"Actually, Brett, what I see is a lot of CART fans bashing the IRL,
and a lot of IRL fans defending the IRL -- WITHOUT trying to tear down
CART, its teams, or its drivers, and WITHOUT resorting to "CART-
bashing," if you will.  Yes, there is some, but most of the bashing
comes from the CART camp, most often -- but you never see any of that
from CART's owners, drivers, and participants (with the possible
exception of Mario Andretti)."

Please do not mis-quote me -- or even badly paraphrase me -- again in
this manner.  I do not appreciate inaccurate statements attributed to
me incorrectly.

To further clarify the issue, the statement to which MY "Candy-ass
CART fanboy" statement was made was this statement from Brian Lape:

"True open wheel fans don't support the IRL."

This preposterous statement was put forth by Brian, who is an obvious
pro-CART fan attempting to come off as what he would have us believe
to be the penultimate open wheel fan.  In my opinion, you can't be a
race fan and deny the talent inherent in the IRL.  You can dislike the
politics, and hold the IRL/CART split in disdain, but to denounce the
IRL as something that a "true open wheel fan" should refuse to support
is nothing short of inane, divisive, and obviously NOT the view of a
TRUE open wheel fan.

This is purely my opinion on the subject, of course, and Brian is
entitled to his opinion, too, but, frankly, my opinion of people who
wield opinions like that is that they are most likely NOT true open
wheel fans, but, rather, "candy-ass CART fanboys" who only care about
the "stars and cars" of CART, and not necessarily racing in general,
let alone open wheel racing as a whole.

Based on my original statement about IRL- and CART-bashing, I think
you can see that I neither attacked CART, its teams, nor its drivers,
nor did I resort to "CART- bashing."  What I did do was express a
potential personal opinion about Brian based on his rash anti-IRL,
pro-CART statement, and even at that, I did not even refer to HIM a
"candy-ass CART fanboy" -- I merely alluded that those kinds of
mindless IRL-bashing arguments has in the past caused me to refer to
narrow-minded CART supporters as "candy-ass CART fanboys."  I am aware
that there are also "candy-ass IRL fanboys" out there, too, but that's
a different story altogether.

At any rate, I hope this clarifies my statement and my position.  I
have nothing but the utmost respect for CART, its teams, and drivers,
and I wish the series and its fans nothing but safe, enjoyable racing
throughout the rest of the season.

Would that the narrow-minded IRL fans could do the same, and that the
narrow-minded fans in the CART ranks could do the same for the IRL.

Of course, when people on both sides are constantly mis-quoted, it
does nothing to help settle any of the animosity, and only serves to
drive the wedge in even further, at the expense of open wheel racing
in the United States.

So, again, please do not mis-quote me -- or even badly paraphrase me
-- again in this manner.
