GP3 - rain effects in *software* mode?

by Stephen Ferguso » Thu, 27 Jul 2000 04:00:00

Hi all,

Does the software renderer provide rain effects (changing sky textures,
rooster tails [spray], track reflections and a drying line)?  I ask because
my notebook uses a S3 Savage 3D chip.  GPL and NFS:PU run quite well (36fps
in GPL at 1024x768, all details) but games on the Savage mobile are all
really driver dependent and I see that the Savage chips aren't listed in the
readme as "officially supported" for D3D.

If GP3 still has the excellent keyboard support of the previous games, then
this could become my ultimate train-ride diversion.  Weaving madly in a BRM
is okay for giggles, but I have to save the racing for home with an analog
controller.  Keyboard playing on GP2, on the other hand, while not as
brilliant as with a wheel was always still immensely enjoyable.

All effects are in the software renderer, the only real difference in the
rain is that anything behind a wall of spray appears Black and White through
the spray. But all the reflections still look cool

Keyboard playing in GP3 is very good and a lot better than GP2. I would say
GP3 is the best keyboard F1 sim on the market. It's driveable unlike GPL &
F1RS and yet gives you enough freedom to turn unlike GP2.
