I've owned a Thrustmaster T1, GP1 and now a MS FF. I've also tried the
Saitek R4 and drooled over the Thompson w/ the Momo wheel ($700), but I
have to say that I am *VERY* happy with my MS FF wheel. The FF is good
for what is now available, but I don't even care about that as the wheel
is just plain smooth even in non-FF games. The tension is adjustable so
that just about anyone can find a setting that is suitable. Well worth
the $189 I spent. You can find it for $163.74 at www.mcglen.com and they
will ship internationally. (I've never ordered from them, but they seem
to reputable - I found them via pricewatch.com).

Which Dixon's do you go to? Its 150 (with VAT) at my local Dixons and
Currys and PC World. Or 140 from Software Warehouse.
You've persuaded me to go get one. Could you persuade the wife?

It's bigger than it looks in the pictures by the way!
Haven't seen that paragraph.
I too live in the UK and imported the ECCI CDS4000 I mention above
from the US. You'll need to pay quite a large amount on top of the
cost of the wheel to get it into your mittens: air freight, VAT,
customs, and handling.
If you want any details, just let me know.
