I try not to bag a sim until at least ive given it a fair go and
attempted all the options and settings first. So after several days,
here some good impressions on an otherwise very disappointing attempt
at a V8 sim.

I personally like the way they have modelled the "oncomming scenery"
it appears out of a foggy haze ahead and I think is a good comprmise
for showing the ongomming road and scenrery ahead. Likewise the widest
angle views give a very good sense of speed, especialy at Bathurst.

The best feature in my mind is the terific helicopter replay that
allows you to fly over the circut at any height whilst following the
car. You can pan, tilt etc and follow the race line just as a tv
helicopter can....way cool, but suprisingly I found it by accident,
and it doesnt seem to be even mentioned in the manual.

Its also very fast loading and in between menues which is good IMHO.

HOWEVER.........

No neutral gear, Why?
Only 4 Australian circuts. So much for running a season. Where Winton,
Symons Plains, Hidden Valley etc!!
Absolutely shocking AI, seems to be dedicated to online play (i prefer
hotlapping). The Ai is the worst of any sim I've played.
Sandown was disappointing to me.
The car pulls up unrealistically fast in "off road" excusions

This one may be a local bug as I did have install problems, but after
a trial session I cannot escape the sim without hitting the computer
restart key, no other key including esc will work, it just gets stuck
in endless replay loop. I also loose my MSFF steering wheel settings
each time I exit the game.

I like many others I waited months with anticipation for this title,
and with an EA branding was quite hopefull as I think EA F2001 is the
best sim attempt yet, however although I enjoy the ellements mentioned
above, and also include the sound in that comment, I believe overall
its a 6/10 attempt, and it was touch and go for a return for refund in
my view.

Best part of it for me is the pseudo-Formula 1 cars and Bathurst.

I wouldn't dare guess what cars they are replicating but they are a
sensation and controlling one on Bathurst requires GPL type skills.

Then i went one further and chose wet weather with them...LOLLLLLLL

...what a blast....2.11.24 was my best time and it must be a WR...;-))

Well...? Spill the beans.

Strange decision.

Licencing I'd presume. I'd say exclusive to Codemasters probably
being the reason.

It certainly has its moments. I'm hoping MP takes off in a big way
and I can run MP seasons. MP so far appears to be pretty damned good.

Only 2 Aussie tracks that shipped that are decent to race on is
Bathurst and Adelaide, IMHO.

Noticed that with the odd STCC2 track, I presume because there's
sand right on the edge of the tarmac, otherwise an excursion into
the grass seems reasonably realistic to me.

Racing up the mountain at Bathurst is a blast.

Cheers,
Rod.

I think the only good point about the game is the fact I bought it at EB, so
could return it. I did this 3 days after purchasing it.

V8 Challenge is the biggest disappointment of a game that I've ever waited
for the release of.

price, which is due out Friday week (24th May). Demo looks extremely
promising :)

I agree it's not as good as we hoped, but it still beats the previous
attempts at a V8 title by a long long long way, if you get my drift. The
first time I played a game with Bathurst as a track was a fews years back
now, the graphics were very realistic for the scenery, but the car was
basically a rendered block that didn't even seem to sit on the track, just
turned left and right as required. Very poor and I was very disappointed.
Can't remember the title, needless to say it didn't last for long and is the
only game I have ever returned......

The game was called "Touring Car Champions" one of the worst games ever
made.
