Midtown Madness: bad CD?

by WiNoJo » Mon, 31 May 1999 04:00:00

Three quick questions about Midtown Madness, I'm starting
to wonder if maybe I bought a defective CD from Best Buy.

be in the drive for the game to start.  Mine won't start
  without being in the drive.

file I can find anywhere is the LOGOS.AVI which is the
startup Microsoft and Angel Studios splash screens.

brings up a window showing the "media manager" help screen.
The file is named MM.HLP, but I don't think it's the right
  one.

Anyone else having these same weird symptoms?

I would guess that you have two CD-ROM drives, and the one you installed from is the second one.  Trying putting the CD-ROM in the other one and start the game again.

I personally didn't have this problem with Midtown Madness, but I have had it with other titles so I know it's a possibility.

If you only have one CD-ROM drive, then I have no idea what the problem could be...

I too, just got back from CompUSA.  I did the typical install.  When I start the game, it says "Please insert the correct CD-ROM, select OK and restart application.

Midtown Madness: bad CD?

by WiNoJo » Mon, 31 May 1999 04:00:00

I just found a new Midtown Madness CD crack at www.megagames.com -
This should solve the problem with having to have the CD in,
downloading it now.  No start-game movies in this game like
there is in Motocross-Madness?  And still confused why the
MM.HLP file only brings up Microsoft "media manager" stuff...

I too, just got back from CompUSA.  I did the typical install.  When I start the game, it says "Please insert the correct CD-ROM, select OK and restart application.

What gives!  ?  Anyone know of a fix?  HELP!!!

Actually that was it.  I found it out on my own but thanks for the reply.  I have a Yamaha CD-r and a generic 40x drive.  I was using the CDr to install and play.  It installed fine but refused to run the game.  I changed over to my 40x and it works now!  This game is very cool!  ;)

Midtown Madness: bad CD?

I think they have some sort of funky copy protection, because it often
thinks I don't have the CD in the drive, when it's been in there for a week!
There's even a message at the beginning of the game that says it's checking
the copy protection.

Either that or they have a bad batch of CDs.
