Nascar - left foot braking ?

by Ulrich Landgraf-Diet » Sat, 06 Jun 1998 04:00:00

Do real Nascar Drivers (Earnhardt&Co.) step on the brake with their left
foot?
Recently I read a trackgeuide about Nascar2: ...hold both the brakes and
the gas to the floor ...
What about the clutch?
So Im just a Nascar Beginner playing by joystick not wheel and pedals.
Strange question but would be interesting to know.

Thanks

I' m not quite sure about Nascar drivers, but I know open-wheel race car
drivers use a technique called Heel-and-toe braking. You push in the clutch
with your left foot to downshift while braking with your right foot heel,
and your toes go on the gas pedal ready to start accellerating while still
braking.

I' m 99% sure that' s how it is. I could be wrong.

There' s also another called threshold braking, but i don' t know how it
works yet.

Close. The right toe is on the brake, and the right heel blips the gas.
This
makes a smoother downshift.

Threshold braking is just braking at the point just before locking the
wheels.
It is at the threshold of a skid.
