Why is it that every product software or hardware is cheaper in dollars
than pounds when there are around 1.7 dollars to a pound. It seems that
even with software imported from Europe you get a cheaper deal. I heard
on this ng that someone was getting MGPRS2 for 24 dollars when we have
to pay 35 pounds for it - that's 2 and a half times the price and it's
not even released in the US. The MS FF wheel costs 169 dollars but we
pay 200 pounds - twice the price. God knows what GPL costs over there
but it costs us 35 pounds. What, have all you suppliers got it in for us
poor limeys?

Hi,

And then of course there's the fact that our US chums don't pay phone
bills! Sometimes we pay up to around 750-800 pounds for a year. They
pay, what, around 150 dollars?

My Herc Thriller cost me 200 pounds, I've seen it on US sites for about
120 dollars.....

Everything is cheaper over there! Although we do have the advantage of
fewer TV ads.....

Cheers!

Even with 17 and a half per cent VAT that doesn't account for the more than
doubling in prices. And I believe that there are also sales taxes in the US

Sounds like a IMPORTING/EXPORTING TAX thing within the U.K that is
causing the problem.  How are American Cars priced vs. UK Cars?

God knows what GPL costs over there

Well, I paid $45 for GPL (Plus sales tax of about $3) But since it hasnt
been a huge succes, I allready saw GPL marked down to $35. In a few months
it should be like Soda Offroad Racing, where I waited 2 months after release
and purchased a copy for $12...and worth every penny.

But at least you get paid less in Britain to compensate for the higher
costs :)  I don't know how you survive.  I was looking into a few
lectureship positions in the U.K. that would pay *less* than I am earning
now as a student.  Sad.

import taxes).
This puts an end to the whole conversation...

I paid $53 for MGP. I ordered it from GamePlayUK so don't feel so bad.  :-)
Ubi just announced that it can be ordered from their site for $49.95 too.

You get all the worthwhile culture and plenty of Formula One.  We get
commercialized pseudo-slavery and a diluted sense of reality mutated by
imm***capitalistic exploitation.
Look at this way, you (meaning the rest of the world) can still thumb your
noses at our ***ic society while retaining your very cool accents!  The
least we can do is take some of your money! ::)

All that you say may be true....HOWEVER....we can't even GET Colin McRae
Rally for PSX and THAT SUCKS.

Over here, most of the (so called) motorsports fans prefer to watch
'bubba racin' where these (mostly) middle aged fat boys drive cars in
circles for hours.

For real racing, you had better get Speedvision or plan on seeing a 30
second highlight (if that) on FSN or ESPN (the nascar channel)

I am guessing that Codemasters is probably a Euro company given that the
only available CMR is in PAL format.
