N3, ADSL, security q's

I recently upgraded to ADSL.  Now I'm thinking
about installing a security program such as
Black Ice Defender (www.networkice.com).
How will this affect playing online N3, or
hosting N3 races?  Which ports does N3 use?
How about NL and DTR?

I assume Black Ice will allow me to shut
down most ports - so which other ports do
people usually leave up for general e-mail,
WWW, FTP?

My ADSL is through BellSouth FastAccess, if
that makes any difference.  Also I'm using
Win98.

thanks

Don't waste your pennies on Black Ice.
Download ZoneAlarm from www.zonelabs.com
It's an excellent product, better than BlackIce and best of all it's free!!
ZoneAlarm will not only stop people hacking into your system, but it also
prevents any rogue programs on your hard-drive from accessing the Internet
or opening up your computer.  Black Ice doesn't do that.
You can configure it to not pop-up any messages while ***.
I use it all the time, never any problems.
