Nascar 3's new features ...I think not !

I read the preview regarding Nascar 3. I definately will buy it, but some of
the features they claim are first ever are not quite true. "Full wheel
modeling" has already been done in Rally Championship which came out in
1996. Rally Championship also has driver hands in the***pit that move and
shift gears. It's a great game just like Nascar 3 will be, but their not the
first to use these features.

Hmmm, I wouldn't consider RAC Rally Championship has having a good Full
wheel modeling, since it's not quite that good.  Just compare GPLegends to
the hands in RAC. Hehe it's a joke.

Oh, Vette back in the start of the 90's (great racing title where you can go
anywhere in San Francisco) had some hands modeled. But this doesn't mean
"Full wheel modeling" <g>.

But... why are we cussing on this ? You didn't even saw a screenshot of it
so....

I can't believe anyone would waste their time programming moving hands
and gear shifts.  I sure hope they are smart enough to disable it if
you're using a wheel or at least give us the option to.

Maybe they aren't talking about the steering wheel?  I think the are
talking
all four wheels and tires.  GP2 did model brake locking on all four
wheels,
but GPL goes another light year beyond that.

Have you ever noticed in a replay that the mass of the wheel and
suspension
is modeled?  That is, the suspension will compress and extend based on
the
g-forces that are being applied.  This is especially noticeable when the
car is flipping through the air.  The suspension is working even though
the
wheel isn't making contact with the ground.  I'd call that full wheel
modeling, of a type which hasn't been done before.

Now if only Papyrus could adopt their GPL physics engine for a new version
of 'Vette, imagine power sliding around the streets of San Fransisco with
freedom to just drive around. The concept was just way ahead of the
computing capabilities at the time (in terms of driving model & graphics).
Only the Car & Driver shopping mall car park matched it conceptually.

Yes Pat the wheels are what i'm referring to. You can feel the car move
around on the road when you hit bumps etc. It appears the car has a good
model for all 4 tyres on the road. This is one of my favorite racing games.
I just bought it this week. I'm impressed with all the details. While some
may call it gimmicks it certainly sucks you into the game. For instance the
windsheild wipers work when "raining or snowning", theirs dense fog and even
lightning strikes. I think this racing game was well done. I am certain I
will buy the sequel "International Rally Championship" later this year,
that's if it's sold in the US.
