Thrustmaster T2 - Put gas and brakes on different axises

by Jade Newm » Sun, 26 Apr 1998 04:00:00

I have managed to put the gas and the brake on different axises, gas
being on Y2 and brake on X2. It works fine in GP2 and I assume with
Nascar2 and the like (ones with good joystick setting up options). The
problem is that I cannot get it to work in win95, so therefore i cant
play F1RS with seperate brake and gas. I have tried making a custom
controller and the like (Pro Panel). Has anyone else changed the
axises on a T2 and got it to work in win95 properly?

Jade,
See my post on "T2 split axis advice". I am no expert here, as you can
see I am also having problems. :) I have just the opposite problem,
W95/GPL is fine, ICR2/N2 is the rub.  I believe your problem is that
in win95 you must have a joy1-Yaxis for things to work. You might try
your N2/ICR2 to see if you are ok there. I haven't tried GP2.
If you get it figured out, let me know.
Chuck

BTW, I have steer=X1, gas=Y1, brake=Y2

Jade,
SUMMARY:
I've got it going now (gpl,icr2,n2). Here's the deal:
  steer=2X, gas=1X, brake=1Y, no t2 converter into gameport, win95
as 2-axis/4button. Calibration is kinda strange in w95 since only
the gas/brake calibrate and you don't see the wheel, however, all
  games calibrate/see it fine.

I believe my biggest problem was knowing that w95 needs something
on 1Y and icr2/n2 need something on 2X.  Be sure to calibrate w95
before doing icr2/n2 (I exit to dos to run icr2/n2).

FYI:
I previously had steer=1X, gas=2X, brake=2Y and GPL worked fine with
the converter since it maps 2X to 1Y and 1Y to 2X and w95 was happy
since it had 1Y defined.  However, icr2/n2 would not work like this.
I discovered that they need something on 2X to work, thus I moved
gas/brake to joy1 and steer to joy2 with no converter to satisfy
  both w95 and icr2/n2 requirements.

Hope this helps...Chuck

I took off the win95 adapter from my T2 and managed to get separate
axis'.  However, My T2 was one of the last built needing an adapter for
Win95.  I don't know if the newer T2's can be separated like the older
ones.  But if possible, I chose the T2 without adapter option in the
Direct Input control panel.

Why do you call it a win95 adapter??? It's got nothing to do with Win95,
it's just changing from one to two axis... same in DOS, Win95 or Linux!

Basically because the use of the adaptor was only required for certain
Win95 games/sims.  For some reason they did not support having the wheel
on one axis and the pedals on another.  Where 99.9999% of most DOS games
allowed the wheel and pedals to be on separate axis.  However, most of
the recent talk here in r.a.s. has been about putting the two pedals
onto different axis.  The current NASCAR Pro wheels by Thrustmaster have
a swith that will put the gas on the Y1 axis and I think the brakes go on
the X2 axis.
