Just wondering if there's any consensus re: Shift-R in laps used for
GPLRank. Is it a no-no or a necessary thing for those working their way
up. I know I've got one in my current Nurburgring time, but I also have
a lap that's 1.5 sec slower, but squeaky clean. Uwe? Don?

Does anyone else have them in any of their times?

Well, I'm not Uwe or Don, but I am an (extremely junior ;-) ) GPLRank
admin, so: as far as I know, there's no rule against Shift-R. Until
fairly recently, my Ring lap had one or two. As Shift-R always slows
you down (cold tyres, for one thing), I can't see any objection to it -
it's not like railriding, after all.

I use pro level damage, no Shift-R and a full field when I practise and
race.  But then my times suck compared to the hot shoes.  I don't even have
a "real" 'Ring time, but I think my times at the other tracks are decent
under the more realistic circumstances.  I also don't shift without lifting
(as you would in a race).  I also never drove the Lotus until very recently
(the GPLSF dash convinced me), concentrating on the "lesser" chassis.
GPLRank has pressured me into the Lotus and more practise and the big jump
to get competitive at the 'Ring....a monumental task.

Don't worry about it J.P., sure it's allowed, and you get quicker
none of your PB's will have shift-r. To a very large degree GPLRank
leaves it up to you to decide how harshly you want to judge yourself,
but the higher the criteria you set, the more it will mean to you.
For myself I've decided not to except best laps from online racing
because I don't trust the times not to be clock smashes. If I set a
new PB online I go into training mode and either beat it or delete
it, all my PB are in training now.

You can check your online time with GPLSpyGirl... There's a 'check laptime'
button in it that will show the real time.
