Race Driver 2 Demo

by Haqsa » Tue, 06 Apr 2004 01:03:01

According to the readme file: "Controls for the Race Driver 2 Demo can be
set by selecting 'Driving Setup' on the 'Series Options' screen in the front
end."  I cannot select this option.  When I start the game up the only
choices I have are to race or to quit, the options are not selectable.
Anybody know what the problem is?

Well, as they, say if all else fails you may as well just try it.

If you follow the menus through you will eventually arrive at a screen where
the Driving Setup will be offered.

Ok, here is what you select to setup a controller:

Simulator Modes
Free Race
Select a Difficulty
Select a Championship (the series you want to drive)
Select a Track (there's one available for each of the 3 series in the
demo)
Select Driving Setup once you've set the Session Options
Select Control Assignments
Assign your Controls -- this is kinda fiddly in the demo, a lot of
people say it won't recognize their wheel axis, you may have to
actually turn the wheel slightly in the wrong direction then turn it
back in order for it to detect movement - I have no idea why
Click on Advanced to adjust controller sensitivity and deadzone
Change Simulation to Pro-Simulation
Change Pad to Wheel (or not, imho it drives like a tractor trailer set
to Pad)
Play the Game

Well they really buried that one deep in the menus.  Having to go all the
way to the start of the race before you can change control setup is just
dumb.  On top of that, it doesn't save your control settings, you have to
redo them every time.  Lame.

Yes that's a demo thing, same with CMR04 demo but the full game saves it.

you mean there is no GLOBAL wheel calibration/assignments?  Good golly
isn't that rather backward and time consuming.(sorry for the strong
language)

Codies demos usually only have the free race or whatever option
enabled, so in the demos they typically have you setup the controller
in that series of menus somewhere.  In the final version I'm guessing
all of the driving setup stuff will be in the options menu.

Has anyone been able to get anti-aliasing working in the demo? I was trying
to take some screen shots for a friend. I've got an ATI Radeon 9800XT with
driver ver. 6.14.10.6404 and setting DirectX for either 'Application
Preference' or directly specifying 4X AA doesn't work. The cars still come
out jagged. I couldn't find any game *.ini file or registry key to specify
what's used, but I might have missed it. Also tried the OpenGL settings,
just in case, but as expected that didn't make any difference.

Check out Codemasters forums, this has been discussed at length. Basically
Codies coders don't support AA, some people have said it works others not. I
have a 9800 Pro and the demo crashes with AA.
