GP2: who makes the best addons?

by J.Maxwel » Wed, 20 Oct 1999 04:00:00

After reading the review of pre-GP3 at
http://www.racesimcentral.net/, I got pumped up to install
GP2 again and modernize it with the latest patches and such (F1RS and MGPRS2
just never seems to catch on with me.)  But with so many addon authors out
there (listed on GrandPrix2.com) can someone tell me who makes the best (and
most up-to-date) carsets?  And who makes the best (and most realistic)
tracks & track patches?  Any other recommendations for addon installations
would be appreciated.

There's a guy named Juha Viitala that makes some beautiful carsets that get
updated a couple of days after each GP. I usually use his carsets and have never
been disappointed. It's available at
http://www.AlphaF1.com/gp2/
I'm downloading the "Season 1999 Track Pack v1.5" right now by Matti someone...
it should be pretty decent as well...

Warlock!

Essentials:

GP2LAP.exe (real time extension with trackmap, standings, etc..)
GP2Edit for the carsets
Careditor (change carshape)
....
Many great tracks, biut you'll have to find out yourself (too many out
there) Monaco 98 by Zapparolli is a must to get an idea of what CAN be
done. (looks like Crammond based GP3 on this track  :-)  )

I always want to use new car-sets, but also want to keep GP2's
original settings (for HP, grip, breakdowns, etc.). Does the carset
you mentioned modify these settings?

I know this is probably not realistic (a new carset should probably
have new HP/grip/etc., stats, etc.) but I like using the original GP2
car settings.

Wow, just visited the Alpha-1 URL. GP2 is still "fresh" with new
stuff!

Now to figure out which track-pack to try, and maybe the track-pack
manager? (hmm, here we go again..<g>).

 Thanks,

 Matt

One thing I'll warn you about, with the track pack on that site, it took,
like 1.5 hours to convert jams or jads or whatever the heck they are now,

[snip]

There's something wrong there. I've got a P166 dual booting
Win95/NT4.0. I use NT4.0 as my main work environment and do all the
downloading and unzipping, JAD/JAM conversion and moving files around
in that environment. For the latest 1999 season track update this
took only a matter of 10-15 minutes from the moment that the
downloads were completed.

And then boot into Win95 and enjoy GP2.
