I assume you mean blown motors due to missed shifts. I routinely shift at
all the short tracks and one-mile ovals except for Dover, and Pocono of
course. I've blown one motor due to a missed shift in online racing, and
that was because my own motor was being drowned out. After that, I dropped
opponents' engines to 50%, and I haven't blown a motor since.
I've complained about this in the past, there really should be a
performance penalty for shifting, after all, between gears, there is no
engine torque going to the wheels, not to mention the wear and tear on the
gearbox. But until you implement this, I'll continue to downshift on the
corners.
