Non Nascar AOL Help needed!!

by Ron R. » Tue, 21 Apr 1998 04:00:00

Hello all!

Trying to do a favor for the manager of the apartments that we will
soon be moving to.

His son just got a computer with Win95 on it running AOL3.x for
internet access.

Everything works fine on AOL with one exeption!!

Everytime he selects the web browse icon in the upper tool bar he gets
a blank www exporer box and a never ending spinning hourglass that
completely locks up his aol connection to the point that a
ctrl-alt-del/end task is the only way out of it. Again, it is only the
www browser in his aol3.x that generates the lockup!!

Anyone out there run into this &/or have a fix for it??!!

Thanks
Ron R. II

 Ron,
Will AOL allow you to use a real browser and still use their services?
If this is the case he could just use Netscape, of course you may have to
uninstall the AOL browser and install Netscape Communicator for him. The
other option is to install Netscape and get a real local ISP. Of course,
that would be the way to go. All the best, Mike

AOL will allow you to run any browser you choose, personally I have IE4,
Netscape3.04(?) and I'm trying out Opera on the same machine with no problems.
The AOL browser is just a slow(er) version of Internet Explorer.

I suggest that you download AOL 4.0 which is out and available to their
customers.  If that doesn't work then tell him to get a REAL ISP...  Also
with AOL 3.0 for win 95 and AOL 4.0 MSIE comes as the default browser for
AOL.
