VOREN where have you been?   :-)))

The United States Auto Club under Tony George is creating lots of
trouble with his Indy Racing League.   Doubtless he is also causing
trouble with NASCAR Racing and IndyCar Racing II and will not release
the licensing rights to Papryus for them to use Indianapolis Motor
Speedway.

Sega has purchased the rights to the name of DAYTONA when they created
their damn ARCADE GAME :-(( Daytona USA.   Despite Papryus' requests
to SEGA they refused to allow them to use Daytona for NASCAR Racing.
I have never played Daytona USA and never will in protest!!!

Hope that clears it up for you.

Craig.

Actually he wants more $$ than Papyrus wants to spend on the project
(that's what was kicked around on the Papyrus BBS).

Actually, Sega *licensed* the name - a lease of sorts.  Considering how
they mangled "Daytona" up in thier game I doubt NASCAR will let them
renew their license when it expires, I believe either Rick here or Doug
on the BBS said it runs out next year.

I really think that dollars and cents play into the equation too.
However image and public relations can probably play in as well.
So why don't we all do this:  Let's all mail the daylights outta Daytona
Motor Speedway. We need to Tell Them.

1. We are are NASCAR FANS. We watch races!
2. We are potential customers (race tickets).  Hell I went to Talladega
last July and spent about $500. I may end up at Daytona soon. It's on
my top five list of Nascar races I Gotta see.
3. We hate the fact that Sega has turned Daytona, the Superbowl of Nascar,
into a wet-nosed kiddie game that McDonalds Gives Away.
4. Simulator fans spend a lot of money.  I don't even want to talk about
what I have spent to run NASCAR in SVGA with detail.

The squeaky wheel gets the oil kids.  Maybe if enough people get active and
send their thoughts to Daytona Speedway, we could at least get them to
refuse Exclusive licensing to Sega and let Papyrus give us another realistic
representation of a Superspeedway Legend.

Anyone have Daytona's mailing address?  I'd like to get started.

Well, this ought to make you feel good then.  I have seen the advertising
about The Sega Channel and, as an avid gamer, I probably would have bought a
Sega and the channel for myself this year.  I found it to be quite an
interesting concept.  But since I can't drive Daytona in a REAL sim thanks
to Sega, and since they would not even grace me with a computer generated
reply, I think I'll fire up NASCAR Racing, make a few runs at Talladega, use
the money I would have spent with Sega to buy a flatbed scanner, and invite
Sega to kiss my ass.

I hope someone from Sega reads this group so that THOSE LOSERS WILL REALIZE
THAT THEY LOST MY BUSINESS!

I also regularly recommend Nintendos over Segas.
The day that company folds I'll dance a jig!

Daytona International Speedway is owned and operated by the International
Speedway Corperation which also own parts of Watkins Glenn, Talladega,
and (I believe) Atlanta.  All of which Papyrus has done great justice and
turned me into a NASCAR fan.  I believe that the owners of the
International Speedway Corperation - the France family - know that
Papyrus has been an excellent ambassador to their sport and will grant
them a chance to do justice to their greatest of speedways by not
renewing Sega's license and instead granting it to Papyrus.

I've played it.  It sucks.  you can choose from 3, 6 or 9 lap races for
$0.75.  Not even worth it.

Geez, I can only hope that Sega does lose the license to Daytona next
year.  It's the first I've heard this.  Sega has definitely done
Daytona an injustice and I certainly hope that Papyrus picks it up
when Sega loses it.

put 7.50 in a jar everytime you make a 50% run at Talladega (94 laps).
You'll have a Pentium 150 in no time!
