rFactor demo

Now I have actually found some kind of rFactor demo.

It just looks like it's the multiplayer part included and thus don't
tell me much about how it would look on my machine.

Is there a way to play in the multiplayer demo, and not just look at AI
cars?

I'm curious about this as well, a couple of nights ago I fired up the
rfactor demo to get a little online racing in, but could not get a
racelist.....maybe I've changed a setting in my router or firewall, but I
thought I'd ask in case the demo is dead, or the racelist server has changed
address, or something.
Andreas, it's a good sim for online racing, it allows lots of close racing.

AFAIK.......

with the Demo the MP "test" is completed and therefore no racelist - having
said that, you should be able to "Create / Host " a session so that you can
get a car and go out and do some laps (albeit solo).

Pre-apologize if that has changed since I last used the demo.  (have had the
full version since the first week :)

Cheers

It sure seems to be popular. Now I'm just waiting for some mods that
really makes me feel "I need this". :)

I finally got the demo running, and the "drive" button lit up! I don't
know what I did, but I created a race and then I could drive some laps
with the AI cars without any major gfx hickups.

Like all sims except GPL, the car felt really nervous and like in F1C
the FF pulled me *into* the corners!

But! It looks good and I can use it, if someone makes a mod I feel I
gotta have. :)

Now, after you posted, the "Create" suddenly worked like it
should. Magic, or I clicked something new.

I works on my machine, and the oddities aren't about me having a slow
computer. Great.

Reverse the FF, this is a common issue with Logitech wheels.

Regarding rFactor full version, I've made a few videos:

If you have a momo/logitech wheel, then set your FF slider to the
negative values.  That has been this way since before F1c, all the way back
to the FF patch in F1 2k1.

Sorry,  I hit the send button before addressing this as well.  The tires
are cold.  Give it a few laps to heat them up.  Adjust your steering
sensitivity.  Higher is more nervous, lower is slower steering.  Your axis
should all be set near 50% for full GPL-like linearity.

Yeah, I changed the FF in F1C as well. Still odd.

Really impressive driving! Is that one of the included fantasy
cars/tracks?

Really? You would have thought they had learned how they worked by
now. On the other hand, my wheel doesn't work at all in G4 so I guess it
could be worse...

Just a difference between Logitech and other wheels.

Yes, the Formula and Howston are included cars, and the tracks
are included tracks. You have to edit a text file to allow the
Formula to run on Sardian Heights short, but not Sardian Heights
Long, which was added in a patch for the game, I'm not sure
why they didn't change the short version to allow open wheel
racers (OWR) on the short track, as there are fewer tight turns.
Sardian long has more tight turns (sort of like Monaco). It's
just a simple text change, but you need to keep a copy of the
original around and restore it in order to play online because
the game checks the files.

Regarding the speed of the Formula, I've downloaded Spa for rFactor
and I run just under 1:50 per lap in both rFactor and F1C99-02 with
the RH2004 season mod, so it's very similar to an F1 car.

A video of the Formula at Sardian Heights long:
