Just because it's possible to drive 'showy' doesn't meant that it is
unrealistic. The key is that 'showy' does NOT equal fast. That's why you
don't see the vintage footage showing many huge powerslides - although
they were certainly possible and I've got several examples on film.

Most of the hotlappers are seriously over driving the car atm, hence
those huge powerslides. They've just about reached the limits of what is
possible by that method. But proper 4-wheel drifts are possible and both
faster and more consistent. Learn to do them... <g>

Holding opposite lock is of course ill-advised while
understeering. :-)

Hi Mike - I hear you're in the 1:06's! Surely not with a crappy joystick?

>   Hi John, I really enjoy simnews.com.

I can't take any credit for that just now - I did some articles around
Christmas but Marc does all the work these days.

It can be, but then so can most cars.

I've driven very light cars on thin tyres (FF1600) up to heavy cars
with massive tyres (BMW 850CSi) and all manner in between, and while
the handling folows basic fundamentals the cars themselves differ
enormously in the way they drive and the amount of respect you have to
show them.

Then too remember that the demo is designed to show people what the
car and engine can do, and as such the car is setup in a particular
way. Were I to take any of the raod cars you have driven and mess with
springs and damping you would end up with a similar feel.

I think the effect you are seeing is less to do with the physics model
of the car and more to do with the setup and perhaps the grip
definition for the track, but we'll see when you get your hand on the
full thing :-)

Cheers!
