Actually it was DaleJr3.

Yeah, that was too long ago.  Well, I also had "DaIeJr3" as a screename
(impossible to notice, but it's a capital "i" instead of the L).  But I
never raced it 8)

says...

Ask him specifically about the "Sport Allen" ID. The story behind
that ID is the very reason I refused his admission into RASCAR...

>When you have made all your ID's 6, 7, and 8's. and you want to
>race and you only have 0 to race against.. wont you make more ids

If I understand you correctly, your reason is because your skill level(rating)
is too high?  If that's the case, then the answer to your question is hell no.
For one, I'll never get to an 8 rating.  Don't get me started on how ***ing
*stupid* I think the rating system is...  Two, if you're so good, why would you
want to 'cherry pick' against novices?  Three, even if the above two would ever
happen to me, I certainly wouldn't pick a different name than my own.  You have
9 letters in your name(not counting the space).  Which means you can still make
9 other combinations of your real name just by dropping a different letter each
time.  I just don't understand the need to assume someone else's(real or fake)
identity...<shrug>

I think Don means he doesn't want to break out "the good IDs" to race
against the inexperienced or inept because, if he gets caught up in stuff,
he loses a lot of rating points.

I hear you...

In pick-up racing I certainly wouldn't, but in league racing one is often
required to start at the bottom. It's a different ballgame when you're
"supposed" to win as well.

I understand where you're coming from, but having an online alias is common
practise. I'd stop short of using someone else's name though, especially one
belonging to someone I do business with.

So why join?  I can't imagine it being too much fun to have a race full of
people who can't keep the car pointed in the right direction.  I'm slow as
hell, but I don't join races like that.

I've never heard that before.  The couple of leagues that I ran, no one said
anything about starting at the bottom.  But I thought that's what people were
saying before.  To get in 'safer' races, join a league or pasworded server.
But then the leagues had minimum rating levels, so that the people couldn't
meet the minimum rating.  Certainly those servers would allow a 6+ rating to
join...?

I've never been big on the aliases, so we differ on that view.  I don't have
any problem with people knowing who I am when I join.

Are username & password tied up to one specific CD-key? (if so - I didnt
know that...)

Why do you race from different computers then?
Must be bloddy timeconsuming to keep your setups updated on all 6
computers - all the time.

Also, would it not be a whole lot easier and "cleaner" to register one
varaiation of your own name one each computer?

What about your friends - dont they have computers at home they race on too?

Btw, you still failed to answer the question:

Impersonating - being the key word here ;-)

"Don Wilshe" said:

Let me try one last time...

Why do *you* impersonate them?
(i.e why do enter races using "their" accounts/names ?)

Seeing you brought up this impersonation topic, I thought you had an
(better?) answer to your own question Don.

Ed, think about it for a minute. Many of these people
don't have the time to race online on a regular basis. Some of them
when they do have the time, would like to race in a League
or quality races. It requires a ranking to get in.
Yes, Don has gone and raced using their names to get
their numbers built up but that doesn't mean that the real
people aren't using them. In fact I know they are.
I have been in a few races over the last few years that
were all professional racers. I was one of the few that wasn't.
The problem was with conflicting schedules it was hard
for them to race online as much as they would have liked.
I can tell you it was a weird experience being in a mixed
group of drivers that you sit and watch racing on Sundays.
I will also add most of them were very good. Don was the
match maker.

For the life of me, I cannot figure out how anyone could use this as a positive
argument.

Anyone who is, on your word only, seriously committed to the 'community' of
online racing can not possibly rationalize how inflating someone elses numbers
just to get in a race, when they apparently cannot give the required time to
earn that right themselves, and THEN hide behind the idea they are good enough
to race there if not for rules requiring seat time, that this logic somehow
makes sense is just plain silly at best.

And the fact that others do it certaintly does not make it a license for people
like him.  Even someone who is a firend to you.

Pete, I'm glad the guy helps you out emotionally.  I think that's great.
Honest.  But it doesn't mean he treats everyone that way.

I never even understood why he wanted to race in VRW in the first place.  You
have to wonder though.  It does takes a different type of personality to want to
race so badly with people who don't want you around that you would either cheat
your way in, or Even Worse, recommend the place to people you care about.

And, while I'm on this train to nowhere :) WHAT self-respectin real life driver
with true loyalties would race in a league where their friends were ridiculed?

I can't figure out who has less to offer don, his friends or the man on the
ledge.
:)

NASCAR 2003: Why Is Mark Rinsem Impersonating Me?

Tim, my head is in a total fog at the moment and I'm having a
hard time reading the screen so please forgive me if this post
isn't as coherent or well structured as I would like it to be.
First let me say I'm not Don's keeper. The fact that I chose to
call him a friend doesn't mean that I'm going to agree with everything
he does or says. It doesn't mean that if I suggest he shouldn't do or
say something that he is going to listen to me.
Friendship can be based on many criteria and I decide who I will
be friends with or not. Nobody tells me what I can or can't do. If I ask
for their opinion I will listen to it. I try to reciprocate in kind.
Most of my friends are unique and/or interesting characters. I don't
have very many that are boring or not controversial.
These kind of people can be difficult but they are stimulating mentally
and sometimes physically. I have got in trouble for associating with
different classes of people and many of my friends don't approve of
some of my other friends. They range from Phd's to a Billionaire to a
pennyless
intellectual that lives on the streets to the odd individual who has run
afoul of
the law. I try not to judge them too harshly and hopefully they do me as
well.
Most people in this NG don't know the real me and if they judge me
by the company I keep I can live with it.
I will try and answer some of the points.

I'm not going argue whether their choice was the right one or the wrong
one.
I wasn't involved in the decision.
As far as helping other people I do know that he has helped many others
both financially,
finding jobs for them, making introductions and providing hardware when they
couldn't
afford to keep racing for a number of different reasons.
Its not my place to name the particulars I'm familiar with because Don
chose to not
make them public and I will honour that. Most of what I know has been told
to me by
the individuals themselves and not Don.
There are two sides to Don. Most of you have just seen the one side and
thats a
shame. If Don wants to project the image that he does publically thats his
choice.

When Don told me he was trying to join VRW I asked him why he would
want to. He then asked me if I wanted to and I declined. Don is a competitor
and wants to race. He goes where people are the fastest and where biggest
challenge is.
As I have said to Doyle from what I witnessed he didn't race. I don't
care
if people don't accept my word or his but until they can prove otherwise
they
don't know anymore that what I have stated. They can make up all the stories
they want.

ridiculed?

Most of these racers know nothing of any of that. They don't frequent
these
NG's and they run in their own circles. They know Don they have no idea who
you or I or Nim etc are.

As I have said Tim you make your own choices I make mine and they make
theirs.

I have said this before and will probably say it again.
If a person learns from their mistakes I should be the smartest person
alive.
But I'm not and don't pretend to be. On the other hand I know what the
choices
were and made them of my own freewill and will live with consequences.
Forgive me if there are mistakes as I don't have the energy to proof
this.

    Pete
