Taking apart a MSFF wheel

I would like to remove the mounting clamp Microsoft force feedback
wheel and attach a strip of Velcro.  My computer table is too thick to
accept the clamp and I have read that Velcro works well.  The wheel is
really tightly assembled with a bunch of small screws and even if I
remove them all, it is not clear whether the mounting clamp will come
off. I have seen posts from other people in this group have done this
but so far I have not found any details. Anyone know where on the net
I can see some instructions on how to take apart a MSFF wheel,
preferably with some pictures?

Your desk is too thick? What are you using as a desk, a log split down the
middle?
I just looked at my clamp on the  MSFF wheel and I can unscrew it to give a
good 4"
of clearance. Surely your desk isn't that thick?

It's possible that his desk has a lip.  Mine had a lip that was like
5".  I had to remove it before it would fit.  The desk itself is only
like 1" thick.

Yes, my desk has a frame around the top over 4 inches deep.  I could
remove it I suppose, but thought that this would be a better and
quicker solution.  The new MSFF wheels will only work on a desk that
is 1.75 inches thick.  Pretty thin log if you ask me.

Another approach might be to construct something like a computer keyboard
storage tray that would slide out from under the desk....only it would be a
1"thk piece of wood/mdf.  Then you could mount your wheel to it, rather than
modifying the wheel.

The system could be spaced down to clear the 4 inch trim around your desk.
Slide it out like a drawer and mount the wheel and you're ready for
action:-)

Just a thought.....

If you can't mount the MSFFW, that's one big freakin' desk :)
