It's a pretty good sim no doubt about it. But after having it for a few days
( with all the cheats) I realized it wouldn't be long before the novelty
wore off and it would sit there like every other sim besides GPL. So I took
it back. One thing though, AWESOME racing at night in the rain at
Sebring!!!  ISI did a great job with the lighting, BRAVO!!!

This game almost made it back to EB before I discovered the cheat codes.

Im drooling over the pictures of the Mclaren's, Mosler's ,etc.. while
trying to get enough stupid credits to buy one of these monsters.  Well
once I discovered the cheat codes I went out and purchased a Mclaren F1
GTR. Damn to cool.  I have upgraded my impressions of this sim two
fold.  Man these guys are close to having one of the outstanding racing
sims on the market.  I am an GPL *** (recovering).
Just wish they would patch the AI.  Way too much bump and grind for my
taste. But overall I really like this sim now.  Im going to go and buy
me that $5,000,000 ,,ahh what the hell is it?  Anyway Im buying it.
Heheh.

What the hell were they thinking when they come up with the idea of
having to suffer with the credit's crap.

I hope you didn't take it back before getting to try the 1.2 update - it truly
is amazing! A few races in "Pure Simulation" mode should help quell any doubts
you had about the "sim-ness" of this game. (Plus the 60's sports car mode is
just plain fun)

John, you brought it back too soon. The new UNOFFICIAL 1.2 patch makes it
even better. And add in the Editor, and WOW!

But though they did some nice effects with the rain/night - TOCA and TOCA2
goes one step further with rain drops and wiper blades. Too bad ISI couldn't
have included that, AND the windshield getting all messed up with the water
coming off from the car in front of you. Also, TOCA and TOCA2 has it where
you can SEE when the headlights are on.

Otherwise, with the cheats to get the GT1 cars, and the new patch and
editor, I AM HOOKED!!!! Only problem for me is that I only seem to enjoy the
Chatham track. When going up the hill to the start/finish line, I really get
the feel of being in the Panoz or CLK, as I ascend and slam those gears in
rapid succession. This part makes this the ONLY game I have ever played that
got near giving me the feeling of going uphill at Road America to Turn 6, or
exiting Turn 14 and uphill on the front straight - both of which I had
really done many years ago (in the 80's). Oh what a feeling that is!

You got full telmentry? No, didn't think so...then its still below even
Viper Racing.  And if I want 60s cars, I have GPL which are fairly close to
REAL 60s race cars.

Here's hoping that full telementry gets added soon.

John was having problems with SCGT and his system I think.  I don't think
he had problems with the  game itself his pc did and was locking up often
if I am right.

I appreciate the sentiment Mike and I understand the 1.2 improved certain
aspects of the game I still feel that it wouldn't be very long before I dropped
it so I would rather put the money where it makes me money. Just being frugal in
a world of excess.  I didn't mention the fact that it caused more system locks
and crashes in a week than I have had in a year, and when I uninstalled it I
lost all my sound. Very fixable but just another reason to say no thanks.

It's kinda beats the purpose to use those cheats right from the start...
Like with Viper Racing, I found it rewarding to start from scratch and
work my way up to GT class with all the options. If you get all the
options, what's the motivation for doing a career mode? I agree, though,
that once you got at the end of the career mode and got all the cars,
and wish to do a quick race, it's good to have the selection of all the
available cars. Other than that, I find it sad.

yes it's great .
I did an 30 min online race at chatham with 4x rate for gas and tyres,
so that we had to stop at least 3 times. On each pitstop,my brother took
control of the car(like on real GT races)and so on.At the last "low
fuel" warning(4laps to go) i was on 2nd place 20 secs behind , and
decided not to pit.Good move!!!!.I crossed the finish line out of gas
and tyres only 3 secs ahead of my online buddy. It was one of the most
exiting online races i did.
Now imagine what it can be if the online play is good enough to allow 12
or more "doubles" on a 3 hour race?
someone in a cable connection could try to host a trial Race.

I kinda did it BOTH ways. I made one driver with all the cheats (cars,
options, and tracks), and one driver for the career mode. But guess what? I
play the full out MB CLK more than the career mode, and can't get enough of
it.

When I want a racing sim, I want all of the meat available.  I find it
senseless to have to graduate to a higher class.  Why drive a $90,000 VW when
you can drive a $900,000 world class ass beater.

Anyway my take on it, to each his own,  for sure.
