I've no problem with registering, it's the method used. Suppose I want
to run it on a machine not connected to the Internet? Beside, at that
time it was not clear to me _why_ I needed to register a track for an
offline practice session....

Cheers!

That Steam stuff is exactly the reason I wont buy HL2. In the past I
just bought the games I wanted, but nowadays I first use an
'evaluation' copy to see if it runs on my machine, and only then I buy
it.

I think it's a weird thing legal users have to pay the price for
piracy.

This setting that Stephen has, is one of the "quick and dirty" ways of
stopping ***from installing like from Virus or hijacked websites and or
advertizers...  just like associating ms-word files or wordpad with ".txt"
(which usually open with notepad)  someone other than you, have pretty much
effectivly stopped the ".msi" (im guessing it is NOT your own computer?)
which is one of several executable files out there nowdays.  you could do
the "open with" when you right click the .msi...  not sure what you would
chose tho...

Really? I didn't think you needed Steam to play Sid Meier's Pirates....

Possible.

About Virtual RC, I was just giving feedback, it's up to you what you
do with it. I think it's a pitty you didn't explain why there's a need
to register a track or at least gave me a pointer where I could find
that information.

Cheers!

Hmm...  Good point, Remco.  You were just asking, after all.  I'll ask someone
about that and maybe we can get something put up on the web site about it.

Thanks for the input :-)

Todd, as asked previously in this thread, what about installing and running
on a non-internet pc ? Any file I can copy from my registered installation ?

Talk about overrated games.. Pirates was amazing 20 years ago, the
remake with allmost no new features except for a silly dance game
doesn't deserve all the high scores it gets in the mags.
I finished a whole career in 5 hours :-/

HL2 has an amazing engine, the physics are awesome, but what made HL1
a classic was the story, which is totally lacking in HL2. Even after
finishing HL2 I have no idea what it was all about, and the last
couple of levels were utterly boring.

OT, but had to vent my frustrations here ;)

I still can't get the account activation to work.  It sends me a
confirmation email but when I click on the link which asks me for an
activation code, it refuses to accept my code.  I can see now why people
hate activation schemes so much - talk about frustrating.

Install/activation worked fine here, FWIW.  But imagine my dismay when I
rushed to the track and found only itty-bitty cars there, and realized you
drove them from the pit-cam!  Tried to get into the spirit and work with it,
so I got onboard via the telemetry cam, but my ***kept dragging the
ground.  Totally hosed the CG as well.  Very disconcerting...

Sorry Deon, I must have missed the other post.  I'm not quite sure how
registering on a second PC is handled.  Maybe a question for the VRC forums?
They're working on a FAQ to try to answer these types of questions.
