x800 GTO AGP widescreen (1800 x 1085)

Hi folks,

I'm considering getting a 22' widescreen monitor (resolution is 1800 x
10something), and I was wondering wether my X800 GTO would run such a

CRT monitor at get around 80-100fps on most rFactor tracks in DX8. As I
want to avoid going PCIe for now (that would entail a new mobo, cpu, gpu
and the likes), it'd be great to hear from folks who run a widescreen
setup on a similar card (NV 6800GT or the likes).

All the best & thanks in advance, uwe

A 22" would probably be 1680*1050. My son runs an X850 at those resolutions
without trouble. I would not expect to run Stalker or Dirt on it though ;-)

I have the same card Uwe. It looks like 1800x 1440 would be the closest
you can get. In windows, you can check the cards resolution, by
unchecking the 'hide modes this monitor cannot display' in the monitor tab.

Thanks for your answers folks, I'll take a closer look at the TFT specs
then to find out the exact resolution it runs natively.

cheers, uwe

I have the gateway 2185 widescreen, with my 7800 GS (256 meg version, AGP
card) and like  Andi said, 1680*1050 is the "native" res the screen likes to
run, and games pretty well on, I have set the res to lower without much
seemingly bad rate drops...  Rfactor has some tracks that even though the
game swears that it is pumping well over 60fps, it acts more like 22 FPS
IMHO, (can get jerky) with Tooo many visuals turned up, Lienz hiclimb with
more than 12 online racers it isnt as bad as offline with a few "computer
opponents..."

My machine is a conroe class dual core 2.3ghz machine, 2gig mem, 7800 AGP
card, everything else is onboard the Mobo...  (motherboard by Asus's cheapo
division-> Asrock Dual VSTA board (under 30 bucks US few months ago),
allowed me to move up on processor yet keep my older AGP cards, for
now.... ) BTW the new version out called the 4CoreDX90-VSTA R2.0 sounds like
it would be worth my upgrading.

Hi Uwe,

Coincidentally I have a 22" Dell widescreen (1680x1050) coming tomorrow and
I will be using it with an x800 Pro. I'll let you know how it runs rFactor.

When running at such a high res it's preferable to have a video card
with 512mb or more of ram. A friend of mine just got a widescreen LCD
today and on his X1650 with 512mb ram the one game we tried so far ran
fine. Most new LCD's scale down to lower widescreen resolutions fine
anway so it's not like you are forced to run at the native res, or
even at a widescreen res. Of course native res is optimal for
sharpness but it isn't absolutely critical for games.

I have two Gateway widescreens.  The 22" and the 24".

I can tell you NR2003 works fine on them :)  In fact, you actually do get
more side-vision with a wide screen.

Yea, I definitely like the wider view. Big difference.

Uwe, there is a fps hit, but it's not much. Might have to turn down a few
graphic options at some tracks.

Hey Dave,

thanks much for reporting back. Are you using dx8 or 9 in your setup?

Cheers, uwe
