GPL online - Is It Fair ?

Just wondering what other online GPLists think of this...

In an effort to avert crashes on the first lap, or at the first corner
at least, do you think its fair to drive in the arcade view ?

The advantages are that you can see much further up the road and have
much earlier notice of a road blockage, crash etc. You can also dice
wheel to wheel much easier as you don't have the in-car blind spots.
All in all, its much more likely you'll survive the first lap of a
race if you start off in arcade mode IMO.

I've thought of maybe starting off in arcade mode for the first half
lap or so and then revert to in-car mode once the fleet has sorted
itself out a bit. But I don't want to do this if it will be widely
regarded as taking an unfair advantage.

So - what do people thing ?

Any positive effort to avoid crashes at the start gets my vote.

The one downside of the view from the computer screen is the lack of
peripheral vision. Personally I don't get on with the 3d***pit concept on
entry to a corner. During the rest of the race I feel confident I know where
people are (i.e. they disappear from my mirrors they are beside me), yet the
start is another story.

Well the guy who drilled me in Parabolica last night really should have
been driving in the arcade mode.  I went a tad wide there and then he
disappeared from my mirrors.  I gave him room on the inside and was sent
spining into the shrubs a moment later.  I guess since I was not in view I
was not there anymore.  It might help for those who forget about that.

You may have warped out of his vision - I had that at the Glen the other
night - went into a cornerand anothe guy was going round the outside of me
(much quicker than I was), then he warped  - I just kept to the inside line,
but we colided (sitll without me seeing him). Its hard to tell if it
incompetence sometimes or connection trouble...

cheers

You have a good point there that could have happened, but online in other
games I have had the same thing happen too.

I've done it for a while now. I also get better framerate that way. I go
back to in-car after first corner.
I don't understand why u think it could be unfair...?

I think nobody would have a problem if you drove the entire race in
chase view. It is just so much slower, that most people would be even
thankful ;)
