Brands - European G.P.???

by Stephen Barnet » Fri, 18 Jun 1999 04:00:00

Now before anybody says I'm moaning and should be grateful for a truly great
effort from Dave Noonan in creating Brands Hatch, and yes it is great; why
has it become the European Grand Prix in the GPL World Championship?  Is
there a way to delete it from the World Championship, and keep it in the
Single Race category? Brands in 1967 ran the Race of Champions (12th March)
which was won by a Mr D Gurney, who set a then lap record in Heat One of
1min 32.6 sec. This was a non-championship race.

does it matter?.......THAT MUCH?
just enjoy the track...it's fabulous......and by the way....the reason
it's called the european GP is I'm sure for simple esthetic purposes
...not for reality. The game already has a British GP on it so what else
can it or could it be called to make it fit into the whole scheme of
perhaps adding it later to your world championship.makes simple sense to
me.

The point is that a lot of work has gone into GPL to make it an authentic
racing sim. So why throw the opportunity away by creating a fantasy Grand
Prix, when in real life there was a race for Formula One cars in 1967
called, not the 'European Grand Prix', but the 'Race of Champions'. Seems
simple to me. In fact blindingly obvious. I mean, somebody will suggest
racing Formula One cars on ovals next......

Goodness me!

Look if you don't want to mar the 'authenticity' of GPL then don't download
Brands Hatch.  Yes a lot of time has gone into GPL but a lot of time went
into Brands too.

If you want to use it then do so but no one is going to force you.  Either
way be thankful that someone is willing to make these extra tracks in their
own time and share them with us.  Now *that* I'd call blindingly obvious!

Matthew.

It's not perfect.  It's a great track.  Why don't you get off it and go
driving?

Stephen, I'm sure that David was unaware of the name of the actual race at
the circuit when he put the track together.  I'll try to incorperate that
fix into future patches...

Cheers!

Thanks Jan. You may have noticed that I did say I liked the track, indeed it
is fantastic, but some people who have replied to my post would seem to want
history re-writing rather than making plain. As an afterthought, if it is to
be called the 'Race of Champions' after all, then maybe it could be used to
pit all the different On-Line league winners against each other at the end
of the 'season' ???

Then by the same token, shouldn't you be deleting Rouen from your Tracks
Directory?

Just a thought from the other side.

p.s. that's ariZONIE, to all you easterners and across-the-pond-ers.

Brands - European G.P.???

Well maybe so.  I asked in this newsgroup ages ago if it was possible to
create the (boring but accurate) Bugatti Circuit. It has since been shown
possible with the creation of Brands Hatch that these things are possible.
But you seem to be taking my point the wrong way. Do I have to say this over
again. There was not a European Grand Prix in 1967. There was however a
French Grand Prix. Phew, maybe one day this will sink in.
