am i good enough for VROC?

Ive heard so much talk about VROC that I really want to give it a try.
First of all I was worried that im more of a gamer than a dedicated sim
racer that the competition would be too hard. I can do 1:08 at the glen but
1:09 consistenly but loose it because of my dumb joystick sometimes.
Hows that will I find some similar competition?

Also I installed netscape communicator off a september 98 pc mag cd, how do
i know if its 4.07? I got into VROC but didnt really understand what was
going on. How do I join races and all that?

Thanks

If there's a lot of guys racing, chances are they are pretty much all
under 1.07. This doesn't matter, since there usually is some first
corner mayhem and with a clean line and a cool head you can avoid it
and escape from these hotlappers. Then it's all about driving
consistently and staying out of trouble. Racing it's really not so
much about speed than it is consistency, so consistent 1:09s at the
Glen could well put you on the podium provided you don't spin or
anything.

It's a Java applet that initializes, asks your permition to read, run
and modify files (it's safe), then you get a list of games that you
can join. Pick one, it runs GPL, then go to multiplayer and the
address is already in your addressbook. Just click it and get a
connection.

Being fast isn't important if you want to race online. Being
consistent, and obeying the rules of racing is far more important.
Just race as you would in real life, then you'll have fun. There is
always somebody with the same skill as you, so you can always fight
for position. (Which is, IMO, more fun then winning with 30 sec lead)

Cya on the track!

I believe that there is no such thing as a Dumb question. But I'll make an
exception here. ;-)   If you have GPL, A connection to the Internet and the
need to "have fun"  then YES!  you are good enough for VROC.  If you can make
it around the Glen more then one lap against the AI then your doing better then
some of us.  Heck, you might even win most of the races.

Believe me, if I can race you definitely can race! I can't drive worth
beans but I like the idea that I'm "racing" (more like like isolated
from) with other humans. Also, sometimes the chats get more interesting
than the racing.

Thanks for the encouragement. I really suck at GPL, so when online I
just try to drive clean and let faster drivers by. I probably go even
slower than when offline. The only accidents I've been is is being
rammed by impatient passers from behind (no, I'm not going to lose my
line and spin out on a corner so you can pass - wait for a straight)
or being cutoff by someone who didn't complete the pass.

Does VROC cost anything or affect my phonebill in any way?

Nope. The only cost is whatever you pay your ISP. Other than that the
only other thing that will be affected will be that feeling of happiness
and joy that will overcome you when you finally get to race against other
humans.

VROC is free.  As for your phone bill, you should know how you get
charged (VROC does not place charges on your phone bill if that's what
your asking).

Or rather the feelings of anger as you get repeatedly punted off the track
by people who can't drive (allthough they think so!) and refuse to
apologize.

Yeah, Enjoy!
