GPL: I miss it

It's strange that a new computer doesn't have a good enough graphics card to
run GPL.  It only requires a mid-powered D3D compatible card.  If you only
want to do GPL, you could pick up an older GeForce2 card for less than the
price of a game and still be happy.

Not exactly a financially sound solution, especially since you already have
a desktop stashed away in a separate room, but I have been "racing" on a
notebook for years.  Now that current notebooks have the muscle (GeForce2+
chips and 1GHz+ processors) it's finally an option with almost no
compromises.  It lets me do a quick GPL race on the couch while my
girlfriend reads.  For me, it makes a big difference compared to
disappearing into a different room for an hour or so.

I'm not going to add to the "you're whipped" argument.  I've seen different
pressures encroach on my own time since the good old days of running full
championship seasons on GP2.  Sim racing is now only one or two hours a
week, but it's still good to have those few spontaneous races.

That's one of the better suggestions in this thread actually. The whole
Midtown Madness thing.

My girlfriend didn't mind how much money I've spent on PC stuff once she got
to play ReVolt and Midtown Madness, games like that.

She'd be more than happy if I got a Game Cube as well, providing I bought
Super Monkey Ball. :)

How do you mount your wheel on the couch?

Since I was already breaking with tradition by racing on a notebook, I also
turned by back on traditional controllers.  My previous favourite was an
Interact handheld wheel / trigger throttle.  It wore out after a year or so
and is no longer available.  My current controller of choice is a Logitech
Wingman Rumblepad.  It seems unlikely, but it works very well for GPL and
F1-2001.  It has two analog sticks, so I have steering on one, and
throttle/brake on the other.  I can't "left-foot" brake, but otherwise it
works really well, and it means I can have GPL even when travelling.  It
even has force-feedback, in a way, with the rumble feature providing a
proportional feedback which gives some pretty good information about what
the tires are doing.

This behaviour of your girlfriend is only acceptable if she is
Elizabeth Hurley.
If she is not, it's time for a SERIOUS talk, and if that doesn't help
it's time to get a new wheel, a new gfx card and a whole new
girlfriend!

Reminds me of my first wife there.  She once threatened to cut me off.
I told her she couldn't cut me off cuz she didn't know where I was
getting it.  She never said that again.  LOL

First - why would you need a new video card?  Presumably the old one worked
fine with GPL before.
Second - your girlfriend(not your WIFE)?  Why won't she 'allow' it, and how is
it her call in the FIRST place?  A woman I'm not married to would have to be
pretty damn special to tell me what not to buy, even though I could afford it.

I see this alot on this newsgroup and I'll never understand it.  Who cares
if she won't allow it?  Is it really her decision?

I'd keep it simple.  Missionary or doggy style.  You don't want to get fancy
and have that thing spin around on you.
