BELLEVUE, WA (September 3, 2002) - Sierra Entertainment, Inc., a studio of
the Games division of Vivendi Universal Publishing, today announced NASCAR
Racing 2003 Season, the finale to its best selling franchise. Scheduled for
release in February 2003, NASCAR Racing 2003 Season, developed by
Massachusetts-based Papyrus Racing Games, will combine the most authentic
NASCAR racing experience with new blah de blah...
Now, what do they mean by 'finale'? Who owns Nascar games after that?

★ Landmark threadSierra announces NASCAR Racing 2003 Season as series finale
Colin Harris posted Sierra's announcement of NASCAR Racing 2003 Season, due in February 2003 and described as the finale of Papyrus's NASCAR franchise. Readers worried it signalled the end of Papyrus or that EA had secured exclusive NASCAR rights, while others hoped Papyrus would move on to a CART sim or GPL2; Sierra's statement about exploring new ideas on multiple platforms fuelled speculation about consoles. Some recalled that key staff such as Charlie Heath and Ed Martin had already left.
Automated summary.
Where did you see this? Not on the Sierra press releases yet on their site.

Every EA title that I have gotten has lousy multiplay. Even on my lan here
at home the games stutter and warp. The Nascar Thunder title, coming out for
the pc, has a max of 16 for a server. Their multiplay just leaves alot to be
desired.

Also from the Papy press release...."the team is ready to expand their

Looks like they'll be making racing games for the PS2 and XBox...what
a waste.

I bought NASCAR 3 knowing full well that I would run it
about 20 minutes and then go back to GPL.
Unfortunately, I only played with it about 10 minutes but I don't care. I
like to think that in some small way I helped contribute to the release of
N4, which I raced extensively, and N2002 that I now race almost exclusively.

That's a much more important point. Funny all the EA trash talk by others
here, when everything back in 1995 was set for Electronic Arts to acquire
Papyrus. Like I often wrote here, EA were the first publisher of Papyrus,
with Indy500: The Simulation, Nascar Racing 1, IndyCar Racing 2, all the
track packs for N1/Icr1 and finally Road Rash.
They were all published by EA. Finally, Sierra bought them (I remember that
being announced on Papy's website, wow how time pass by).
All the people here trashing EA, when we know how good the Jane's format
was.

If it means they will eventually (2004 at the earliest if you read
between the lines) make a modern open wheeler sim with a high quality
multiplayer component, how can that be bad news? That was conjectured
in another thread and I think it makes a lot of sense.

Huh? Nascar Racing and Indycar Racing 2 were published by Virgin.

Welll....
First, they need to confirm something before I believe it.
And, the worst part, if what we are seeing is true there is a major case of
ship-jumping going on there.
Ya can't duplicate past successes without at least a major part of the
original crew in place.
