No RL Beta This Year

West Racing says no Racing Legends beta this year

KMH noted that West Racing's site now said there would be no Racing Legends beta in 2002, despite an FAQ and an August forum post saying a product would launch later in the year. Some, like Jan Verschueren and David Buttery, saw the earlier statements as best guesses, while others called them empty promises. Most of the thread was mockery of the teddy-bear merchandise.

I was being sarcastic. Anyway from the Racing Legends FAQ: "We expect to launch our first product later this year." Posted by Tony West in the forum on August 23 responding to a question about the above FAQ statement: "Yes, we are still on target"

Seems to be a bit of back pedaling in their latest site news. I hope the best for RL but expect the worst. "KMH" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:Tn5i9.681$[email hidden]...

I'd missed the forum post, which sort of gives the hecklers a case, I guess. I never took the original statement as anything but a best guess at the time, however. Jan. =---
"KMH" <[email hidden]> wrote on 18 Sep 2002: > www.west-racing.com > > What a surprise! Hey-ho. I don't see any reason to change my views on this: I think that the Wests are honestly trying to get things moving, and I think that, if they can, they'll produce a finished game in the end. But there's been too much "crying wolf" (not, for the most part, by the Wests, but by others telling us that "we expect some news in a couple of weeks" or suchlike and then not delivering... repeatedly) for me to take things on trust any more. Admittedly part of that was due to Empire's insane total news blackout policy which meant that those expecting to give news weren't allowed to - I won't be buying an Empire game in the foreseeable future for that exact reason - but I still feel badly let down. (As, I'm sure, do the West team themselves.) I reckon that the odds are about 50/50 at present that Racing Legends will ever be released - better than it was with Empire, but a long way from a certainty. I don't think it's fair to rubbish the Wests without any evidence, but neither do I think it's fair to rubbish those who ask questions about why things are so slow. -- The GPL Scrapyard: http://www.btinternet.com/~gplscrapyard (including the Kinlet Park circuit - currently in beta) Idiotic deep-linking restrictions: http://www.dontlink.com

From their FAQ: When will it be ready? We expect to launch our first product later this year. We will be introducing a beta test programme for all those who cannot wait for the finished article. More information on this will be available on our website.

So from that you'd imply a beta long before year end and an actual products at year end. "GBB" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:amb4or$dv7$[email hidden]...

I Still want my RL Shirt and hat though :-) There isn't any chance that the Westies can't write a line of code, but they own a Huge T shirt, Hat and Teady Bear Factory do you? Just Wondering ;-) Darf "Jan Verschueren" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:Z55i9.122647$[email hidden]...

At the time (July) I assumed as a lot of others did the beta would be about 2-3 months. I'm not really whingeing, I totally support the Wests and will wait patiently of some kind of release. But I do feel they set themselves up for criticism a bit. I think it'd help to deflect pressure if they gave some rough dates. They must have a rough idea when they will be ready with a beta, and they can always change them as they go along. Don't worry! There will be plenty of time to get your bear. The bears that will be shipping first are not the final version of the Teddy Bear but rather Beta Bears that will help to finance the production of the final more plush and lifelike Teddys. Elrikk ;o)

They might cost a lot, but it will be more than just a bear, it will be the MOTHER of all bears. *the above is untrue and does not reflect in any way anything*

I suspect at some point in early 2003 there will be teaser announcements that something is coming soon, this will go on for about 4-6 weeks, at which point they will unveil yet another new website , and probably more news on how much it will cost to be a beta tester when they get to that point. I'd lay odds this product will never see the light of day, probably not even in a beta form. Don Burnette

Wake up and Join the EBAY generation folks. Can you imagine the vast sums of money the E-auction addits will pay when they find out you have a hat or teddy bear from a game that never existed? I'm suprised at all of youse. dave henrie

Heh heh, let's just say when it comes to this I go buy gut feel :). Wonder what kind of odds Vegas would put on it actually being released? Don Burnette

The great thing about this post is that it's timeless. It was clever of you to not specify "2002". ;0) <dives into the nearby shrubs for cover> -- Joe M. "KMH" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:hS4i9.613$[email hidden]... > www.west-racing.com > > What a surprise! > >
