I wish the server could turn off that damn wall glue for
League races.
Wish list for NASCAR Racing 2003
Readers listed features they wanted in Papyrus's NASCAR Racing 2003. Requests included removing wall glue, a better damage model, hidden fixed setups, improved replays, brake wear, a crew chief, a dynamic racing groove, fixes to scoring bugs and freedom from Sierra's online lobby. Several hoped the final title would be opened to mods for long-term life.
Automated summary.
I wish they had a real damage model that actualy ripped up your car when you
hit the wall. Then there would be no need for wall glue.
MadDAWG
I would like the ability to play with setups you cant see. That way we
could have a fixed
setup race and racers could share fast setups and not have to worry about
others
getting. Also would like to see setup have an expire date.. Give a setup..
It stays
hidden, but expires.

Agreed!
Other things I'd like to see:
- Better damage engine / more damage levels for both car, tires, and engine.
- Better tire wear indicator showing wear on I - M - O
- Flatspotting of tires
- Dynamic shadows
- Export filter for replays.
- Support for subdirectories in the replay folder
- Bumps (Well this one will be introduced anyway...)
- Track editor or support for 3rd party tools (i.e give us the formats!)
- Ability to filter the race-list in WON so it only displays certain races.
- Improved spotter that actually do help you along the way :-)
- Crewcheif
- Ability to see other pitcrews

Check. And the ability to save/load replays to/from any drive:\directory.

Ill personally welcome the day when 3 pedal kits with clutch pedals over on
the left become the norm, with heel and toeing being a requirement to drive
in sim mode (in sims of cars with no computers that do it for you), and a
level of sims that penalises those of us who continue to brake/accel into
corners (yes, i do it, been doing it for ages, but its a really bad habit to
get into). so far better wear on drivetrain modelling needs to be
accomplished.
we dont drive like race car drivers drive, we drive how the sims require us
to :(

In multiplier,
1. Show the cars in the pits unless the person realy has gone to the garage
(or is out driving obviously.) This would help the realism.
2. Give multiple sort orders and show/hide options in the list of on line
races. Example: show only races I qualify for, with realistic driving
model, that gives points where the race is not already in progress.

N3 only required a
person to log into Sierra then into a game. (Example: You could use Kali).
Half-Life is also like this. Why we have to use Sierra's POS interface is
stupid.

If this is the last Papy NASCAR Sim, then there is no reason not to do
this - just because they can't officially make new NASCAR sims every
year doesn't mean that the enthusiasts can't keep updating the last
version...
I'd like to see (many have been metioned before already):
1. dynamic weather and dynamic sky
-won't effect a 30 lap race but would be great for league
races
2. crews in the pits
imagine trying to find you pit box with 40 pit signs hanging
down and crews going over the wall to service their car
3. more active crew members
- if you decide to add wedge, you see a crew member putting
the jack in your mirror, or if adding tape, guys leaing down
in front of the car or a guy cleaning the windshield
4. dirty windshield as you drive
- imagine driving behind a guy and his engine blows and you
have oil on your windshiled
5. better 3 dimenional trackside objects
- get rid of those stock in pit and trackside objects, get
more detail and more depth to them, no more 1 demsional group
cut outs.
6. crew chief
- asks you about how the car is tight in, tight out, loose in,
loose out, etc. Then you answer and the crew chief adjusts
on the car.
7. damage model and graphics
- improve it, allow for debris to come off a car during a
wreck, and you run over it (instant flat) or how about
getting a tire rub, and you need to pit before it blows. Or
if a tire goes flat and damages the car.
8. clutch pedal
-better implementation. I have a clutch, but I generally
speed shift becuase I haven't ruined transmissions.
9. filters in multiplayer
-like someone said before filters in games like unreal
tournament, to say not show emplty game or aracde mode games
10. more failures
- I've raced a ton with n3, n4 and n2002, and not too many
times have I had an engine fail (unless I put on too much
tape). How about dropping a cylinder, or having to switch to
the secondary ignition during a race, or a battery failure,
and you need to pit to replace it.
11. rough tracks
- yes looks like their going to add this, might be cool to
feel the bumps at Lowe's
12. more eye candy
- better reflections, light effects, wheel marks on the side
of cars, minor damage to bumpers
13. downloadable cars in practice
- download other players' cars when you connect, great for
broadband users, would not work during quaifying or race
14. one engine rule
- if you blow or crash during qualifying or warmup, put at the
back of the field
15. better rule flexibility
- if you avoid a wreck by going down pit lane, not getting hit
with a black flag. Give back the options for a host to
remove a black flag on a driver.
The question will be... Will Sierra want to put the screws to EA by doing
this :)
Just a nice little FU to EA as Sierra leaves the building. LOL.
It would be funny if N2003 ends up like Half-Life and keeps on selling units
3-5 years after its initial release because of all of the mods.

10) Career mode
11) Track editor
12) More accurate spotter ("he's looking low"; "they're dropping back on
you"; "try the high line")

In article <[email hidden]>, "Don \"Gunner\" Hancock"
<[email hidden]> says...
13) Enforce pit-road speeds and pit exit/traffic merge in ALL sessions.
14) Implement backup car rule - if you shift-r or ESCAPE at any time
during any session and you're not in your pit stall, you are considered
to be using a backup car, and you are automatically moved to the back of
the field for the start of the race.
15) Be able to take the car behind the wall at the end of a session, and
to victory lane at the end of the race (if you win).

1. Fix ALL the damn scoring bugs we got in N2002
2. Allow us to used worn tires during practice sessions... I.e the ability
to save and re-use any set of tires.
3. Go behind the wall to fix major problems during races.
4. Dynamic racing groove
(weather- / sun- / light-effects would be nice too... but please do all the
other - important bits first)

These mods can come from either Sierra or if they drop the ball it can
come from other publishers or even the internet !

Message improvement:
Messages are used in the sim to simulate hand signals. It would be cool if
while driving, your message only could be seen by the car imideatly in front
of you and imideatly in back of you. It would be more real, we wouldn't
have to read all the chater, and you'd instinctily know that the message was
comming from your area and not from a driver on the other side of the track
somewhere.
While they are at it, they could limit the messages available when driving
to only what can be communicated through a hand gesture. If people want to
talk, make them park the car and go into a chat mode.
