Proposed GTR-style sports car mod for GPL

Steve Smith linked an RSC proposal for a GTR-style mod for GPL. Posters noted that GPL car parameters had long been editable but aero and new car shapes were the obstacle. Schooner suggested modding NR2003 instead, prompting ymenard's claim that GPL's modders regard NASCAR sims as second-class.

The physics engine has long since been hacked (my lips are sealed), altho there is no provision for the all-important aero component. Whether or not the 3DOs can be brought to heel is the more, ah, pertinent question. I don't know if the actual physics engine can be influenced, but the ability to adjust parameters pertaining to the car, engine/tyre characteristics and its simulated dimensions for example, has been around for years. The real trouble is changing the drawn shape of the vehicle to match. If you look at the screenshots carefully you'll notice the single seater suspension struts in the GT40 rear wheel well. Jan. =---

>"Damien Smith" <[email hidden]> wrote > So does that mean that someone's figured out how to edit the physics inGPL? Changing the graphical aspect of a car doesn't mean much about it's physics. In the gaming world, it's two completely separate things. In all games, either racing or not. It won't be until a decade before both get together. When you have a 3d representation of a car in GPL per example, it's there "graphically" inside the graphical game engine but there's a completely different thing that acts in the "physics engine". Well I'm crudely simplifying here. But in this case of your question, "yes" people have changed the physics of GPL for a long time. -- -- Franois Mnard <ymenard> -- http://ymenard.cjb.net/ -- This announcement is brought to you by the Shimago-Dominguez Corporation - helping America into the New World...

You know, "it's no GPL". Of course some people will think "No that's not true I don't think so", but the case is not like that for many. -- -- Franois Mnard <ymenard> -- http://ymenard.cjb.net/ -- This announcement is brought to you by the Shimago-Dominguez Corporation - helping America into the New World...
Well since it uses basically an updated version of the same engine that is why I thought it might be better. Not arguing the point just saying is all. As for a second class release that has to do with the style of racing not the code itself. People like different styles of racing but I see no need to slam one because you like another. If they were really more mature, they'd broaden their racing horizons a bit <G> John

That goes without saying :-) Beers and cheers (uncle) Goy http://www.theuspits.com "A man is only as old as the woman he feels........" --Groucho Marx--
for 31 tracks, I think $20 US is quite worth it for the converter ... "Schooner" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:nBpS9.237399$[email hidden]...

I'd have to agree. On one hand we bitch about the poor quality of sims and in the next breathe we bitch about $15 for a bunch of tracks. Software is not cheap or easy to produce, people need to be paid for their work. "Phillip Malphrus, Jr." <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

I'd have to agree. On one hand we *** about the poor quality of sims and in the next breathe we *** about $15 for a bunch of tracks. Software is not cheap or easy to produce, people need to be paid for their work.
