Notable threadNR2003 preview reveals Nordschleife video and no track-length limit

Jan Kohl announced The Pits' preview of NASCAR Racing 2003, including a video of a stock car lapping the Nurburgring Nordschleife. Goy Larsen explained the track was not included but showed that Papyrus had removed the track-length limit, opening the way for converted GPL tracks such as the Ring and Spa. Much of the rest of the thread was about needing a DivX codec to watch the video.

Well probably; as far as he was able to get. ;o) Elrikk
I can't get the video at the bottom of your preview to actually show a video. Its just sound. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? You need the proper DivX codec. I wouldn't be too concerned, video doesn't show much of anything and the article wasn't much either IMHO. "Chris Shearburn" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:q3z%9.147541$Ve4.9793@sccrnsc03...

The video was awesome if your brain could process what you were actually seeing....sure wasn't a speedway and unless you have played GPL you would'nt understand. I have been wishing for the particular track in this video to show up for a NASCAR sim for a very long time. If N2003 actually comes with this particular track, I will be shocked, but very happy. Papy if ya did Thanks in advance! Oh and all you need is Divx basic, perhaps there article wasn't as electrifying as it might have been in the National Inquirer or TV Guide, but it was a good first hand look and who else has the Final Verision? Ahhhhhhh Beer, wurst and Nurburgring BWAHAHAHAAHA!!!!!! Finally!!!!! <INSERT CHANT HERE> Thank you papy!!! lol "Schooner" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:Niz%9.251513$[email hidden]...

My brain can process it fine. It's a NASCAR sim not a GPL sim so to me it wasn't much. The track was also only partial done so I assume it was not a track that would be shipped. The article offered little over what had been mentioned before IMHO. Wasn't trying to be negative, I love sim racing and run GPL from time to time, but just didn't strike me as anything special is all. Sorry as I had no intention of trying to start and argument on the subject. Which means Mr. Noonan and those fine Pits people can give us a nice patched GPL--->N200x converter with the 2 most important tracks that were missing from the last version. Also, if Mr. Noonan reads this newsgroup at all, I'll put myself down as one of the people who would happily spend another 20 pounds on a new converter for N2003 if you can get permission to throw in, say, Lime Rock, Falkenberg, and Castle Combe as a bonus. =) Jason

Most of the tracks are done with the tools by GPLEA. I recall that the Noonan-made tracks are internally structurally different, and Noonan has only figured out to convert them and the original, relatively simple tracks. Converting the GPLEA-made tracks would require diferent converter. This was stated on GPLEA forum a year or two ago, I don't know if things have changed. -- Mika Takala

Hello, Mika... That is a bit incorrect. Any track can be converted, but unlike the very early converters, these tracks require some modification to work correctly (thus the reason that there is not a "generic" converter to convert ANY GPL track). The reason that David has only done his and original GPL tracks is because the last time he converted a few tracks from other authors (in the free GPL > N3 converter), a few authors raised a big stink about it. Dave will no longer convert any track that is made by 3rd party authors for this reason. Whether he continues to do this for N2003 I don't know, but I can definitely say that he will NOT convert anything unless the author contacts him directly... Cheers! Jan Kohl ::: computer security consultant ::: the pits - http://www.theuspits.com castle graphics - http://www.castlegraphics.com
