Idea For RASCAR

Proposal for RASCAR-only driver IDs

David G Fisher suggested that RASCAR drivers use a dedicated Sierra ID so their NR2003 incident ratings would reflect only league racing. Ed Solheim and others preferred one ID for all league racing, and John Simmons said drivers could do as they liked. A side discussion praised NR2003's tyre feel at the limit.

How about we encourage everyone to use a driver ID exclusively for RASCAR? That way our LPI rating will represent only how we have performed in RASCAR. Might make people be a little more careful, and add a bit to the competition. David G Fisher

You might throw some more roadies in there too, just to be blasphemers! Just finished a few brief rounds of a certain British airfield and had a cruise in the Styrian Alps while I was at it - both at sub-GPL times without much effort. Big-time grip. This is gonna be goooood..... SB PS - Goy, your Aussie V8's are (almost) here. ;-) "David G Fisher" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > How about we encourage everyone to use a driver ID exclusively for RASCAR? > That way our LPI rating will represent only how we have performed inRASCAR. > Might make people be a little more careful, and add a bit to the > competition. > > David G Fisher > >

I don't see why. Either people could use their favorite name only for RASCAR (like I'm doing with DaveGF) or just create a new one and use it only for RASCAR. Takes two seconds to log in with a different ID. Make it a rule John! :-) David G Fisher

Takes two seconds to log in with a different ID. I was one of the guys that objected to this Dave... Why? First of all I'd like to be able to use one ID for all my "league-racing" so I can keep trac on my overall performmace and such.. Secondly, remember that the driver Id is the one that gets displayed on all result pages and more importantly all chat, chatlogs and "blackboxes" (raceinfo) - I find it hard enough to tell drivers apart on those lists/boards, and with limited space - having a race-list full of RAS-ditt and RAS-datt will only make things harder - imo.. -- ed_ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- $10 says Petter Solberg wins the 2003 WRC.

The RAS part can be left off. What I'm suggesting is an ID that easily indentifies you by including some part of your real name and is used only for RASCAR. ESolheim, EdSolheim, E_Solheim, Ed_Solheim, SolheimEd I'm going to only use DaveGF in RASCAR now that the LPI and ratings have been reset with N2003. Last year I used it in every online race I ran with N2002. Anywhere else I run I'll use DavidGF. Easy enough. David G Fisher

I agree it doesn't give the full picture at all. I just thought it would add a little something. Also, many people seem to check their incidents and mention their LPI movement after a race. I don't think we'd all be checking each other's LPI or criticizing anyone (better not), I just think it would be good to know for ourselves. David G Fisher

Well now that Papyrus has a more accurate grip level, would it be possible for a really really really talented code-weasel to hack the gpl physics with a similar level of grip? (obviously not the same as the fat Goodyear slicks..but if the N2k3 tire has x% more grip than N4/N2k2, then could we not up the percentage for gpl?) dave henrie
I can accept either method without argument, but my _preference_ would be to use the same screen name I've used for years. Jeez, Dave; you really ARE a blasphemer! ;-) The thing I like the most about the NR2003 tires is not the absolute grip level, but how they feel at the edge of it. You can feel 'em load up as you near peak lateral grip and then let go when you overcook it, which makes dancing on the edge even more dramatic than with previous Papy sims. Their earlier tire models had a much smoother transition from grippin' to slippin' - thus the fabled "driving on ice" feel. As for GPL, no doubt it's best to leave the '67's alone; but it'll be interesting to see what the upcoming mods do with the tires. One can only hope the relevant "code weasels" might dig into NR2003 for some insight into limit behavior in their tires. SB

After I went to work that post popped back into the old head for a moment or two. I had one of those bright lightbulbs go off. IF they increased the grip levels, would that deter the sliding that the GPL faithful find so fun? dave henrie

Well heck no, they'd just slide FASTER. ;-) The thing that might, absent tire wear, is a change in how the lateral grip responds to slip angle and load. Careful with that lightbulb; those things can get hot!
So are we going to agree to use an ID just for RASCAR? Yes John. Always has been for strange reasons ;) I use that id for nearly everything and when I first tried Neil_C on one service years ago it said ID already in use. Yeah, I had that problem when we converted from NROS to Sierra (or WON at the time). My NROS handle was simply LTB and it was taken when I tried to use it in Sierra/WON. Which is strange because I had heard that all existing/active NROS N2 racers screen names had been automatically ported over to Sierra/WON when it went online.
