RASCAR: Tims Rockingham Setup - OMG!!!

Tim's Rockingham setup proposed for RASCAR

Larry praised Tim's Rockingham setup as far more stable than the fixed fast setup and suggested RASCAR use it. EldredP preferred the default so everyone adapts equally, and Jan Verschueren found it heavy and pushy, though others liked it. John Simmons proposed using Tim's setups for races once they became available ahead of time.

Folks, if you haven't downloaded Tims Rockingham setup, do it now! This thing is so superior to the FAST setup that the two simply cannot be compared. It is not only fast but, more importantly, it is stable and you can actually control the car! May I humbly make a suggestion. More than a few people, including myself, have fears about the current FAST setup and tomorrows race. Eldred - How about you put Tims setup on the server and assign as the fixed setup for the race? And if the FAST setups continue to be a problem for us, and they may well be at other tracks, maybe we should have a RASCAR tuned setup created by someone who knows what they are doing posted by, say, Wednesday before the weekend race. The idea of using open setups is also interesting. I like my idea that under the spirit of learning and sharing amongst Rascaronians, the race winners setup must be posted for all other RASCAR members to examine/use. Larry

I'm glad you guys like it. I'll be doing a setup for each track this season. My goal is to get them out by Thursday noon each week. I will continue to post them on the RASCAR forum. A while back I tried to get a hold of the setups used at the lans, this was a few years back. They were very good and stable, just what fixed setup racing should be. But it seemed they kinda felt like setups were like recipes; meaning 'I created it, so you can't have it'. Anyway, I always wanted to do a set that could be an alternative for fixed setup racing, if for no other reason than to just give eveyone more choices. I was never really into fixed racing, and don't have the time I used to have to work on really good open setups. So, with Papyrus's last sim out of the bag, I thought this would be time well spent, especially since fixed setup racing is so much more popular than it used to be, plus with the addons new to N2003. It is also a challenge for me to create something most others can drive. That Rockingham setup is very tight for me. Most of my setups always started with, like a zero toe-in, or less, and very hard to drive for most. So it takes some time for me to find something most everyone can use. At best if you can get something that you can modify to your liking, then I'm happy with that. Also, Rockingham has been one of my best tracks since I can remember. Now the pressure is on (Las Vegas) lol -- Tim White www.intracmotorsports.com "Larry" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:pBC5a.50954$[email hidden]... > Folks, if you haven't downloaded Tims Rockingham setup, do it now! > > This thing is so superior to the FAST setup that the two simply cannot be > compared. > > It is not only fast but, more importantly, it is stable and you can actually > control the car! > > May I humbly make a suggestion. The problem I have with using someone else's setup is that it will naturally be better for the person who created it. I might not be able to drive your setup, and you might not be able to drive mine. If we use mine, you're screwed. If we use yours, I'm screwed. Using a default setup means that *everyone* has to adapt... Using open setups does not interest me because the better setup gurus(who are usually also the better drivers) will have an overwhelming advantage. I just gotta remember that the freaking race is at Noon eastern... I keep thinking it's at 4... Yes, that setup is great! It has much more grip and it's about as fast maybe faster, I didn't really push it till the tires were a bit toasted. You may be having some problems Larry but we sure can't change the setup with less than 12 hours till race time. Not that Tim's setup isn't wonderful mind you. whisper: That's aactually true about the <fast> setup too. It's someone else's setup, and we're all screwed. > Using open setups does not interest me because the better setup gurus(who are > usually also the better drivers) will have an overwhelming advantage. Can you imagine how much faster than the rest of us Tim would be if we gave him that capability? Jeeze! > I just gotta remember that the freaking race is at Noon eastern... I have a possible solution. 1) Tim, you keep doing the setup thing for us for each track. 2) If a "Tim setup" is available for the next race on the schedule immediately after the current race, we will use the "Tim setup" for that race. 3) By the end of the schedule, we should have a "Tim setup" for each track. 4) For the tracks we re-visit on the schedule (Daytona, Dega, Bristol, etc) we will have a "Tim setup" for the 2nd race at that track.

Exactly. I see that as being more 'fair'... Eldred -- Homepage - http://www.umich.edu/~epickett GPLRank:-0.381 MonsterRank: +339.873 N2002 Rank:+17.59 Never argue with an idiot. He brings you down to his level, then beats you with experience... Remove SPAM-OFF to reply.

No offense, but that setup is an absolute dog. Very tight, heavy to steer, big mid corner push, slow when you got the track to yourself, lethargic when you'r either low or high. It's also *WAY* to stable, requiering manhandling to even turn. The inaccuracy of forcefull movementent and a negative track bar split conspire to snap this setup into terminal trailing throttle oversteer, which is a very real hazard when traffic backs up a bit. If every RASCAR setup was like this I'd have to think long and hard about continuing. Granted, there are elements in the FAST setup (in general) which I don't like either and the Rockingham one is on the loose side (especially on worn rubber), but it's not even 1/8th as bad as Tim's. Each individual has to drive around the shortcomings the setup has for them. It's there and it's faceless, so nobody can really bitch about it. Open setups favour those who know what they'd like the car to drive like and can arrive at it quickly and those with vast amounts of practise time. A lot of members do RASCAR because they don't have time to really get competitive in an open series, so I think that would be an unwise move. Jan. =---
Jan, As far as I know, your the first person who has used this setup using FF. I wonder if thats the problem. Sure would like to know if it is. Maybe if more people use FF try the setup I could adjust it. As for the negative track bar, there never has been, and won't with N2003, be a sim that perfectly models real life racing. They all have holes. Heck, ask any WC team how often they use negative wedge :) For different reasons I do agree with you that setup is tight. Try taking out more wedge, adding 5% tape. -- Tim White www.intracmotorsports.com "Jan Verschueren" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:SzM5a.67989$[email hidden]... > "Larry" wrote... > > Folks, if you haven't downloaded Tims Rockingham setup, > > do it now! Just took it for a spin and I totally agree with you. With FAST (and not so much practice) I would lose it going into turn 1 more often than not, hehe. After 2 laps I hit 23.741 (which would put me 8th on Sunday's grid) :-) (I realize a hotlap isn't the point with a race setup and all, but still.)
