Tim's Texas setup and the throttle settings debate

Tim posted an NR2003 Texas setup for RASCAR that some found very loose, leading to advice on linearity and throttle response settings for different wheels. Kevin King called such tweaks cheap, which reignited his feud with Don Wilshe and Pete Reston over rear weight and setup exploits.

Loose huh :) Sorry about that. I just got hung up on tire wear. For the 8 or so hours I put into it (not nearly enough) everything I tried to tighten it up early hurt the tire wear. Try adjusting/lowering linearity. I've heard a lot of people are running as low as 40%, mine is around 90. If that doesn't help, raise the wheel lock. If that doesn't help call a medic :))) It could be just a crap setup. Everyone who is posting setups nowadays, uses a alot of track bar. This was my first attempt with a high TB. But I do more feathering on the gas with it then anything I've ran all season. I really, really wanted some tire wear. While I overall like the tire modeling in N2003 I think they overdid the tire grip on SS. No way does WC loose this much tire. -- Tim White www.intracmotorsports.com "Mitch_A" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:FZOga.3775$[email hidden]... > This must be one of them there pot issues :) I can't turn 1/2 lap at 1/2 > throttle with this one :) > >

I just went and tried it and it actually is just about perfect for balance for me. I'm running 100% linarity. I found it a touch loose in 1-2 and a touch tight in 3-4. You might try what I mentioned with the Bristol setup. Go into the advanced settings and start your throttle response at 10% and see if it helps you might need more but this will kill some of the looseness during the exit of the turn. You could also try a pound less air in the LR and or a pound more in the LF. This should fix the looseness without changing the setup. Tire wear was excellent over all a well balanced setup. I didnt intend to be mean, this time anyways :)) I had a league race tonight but havent had a chance to turn a single lap at the big tex this week. I was in such a rush to get into the race I forgot to load the Logi profiler which really mucked the wheels axis/forces up. She's still loose as hell but I could at least go a lap without a spin now <g>. Once the tars heat she comes in nice. 30% seemed kinda twitchy for my likes, I like to turn the wheel a little bit :)). Im generally pretty close to 90%. I deleted my other NR2k3 shortcut so now I have to use the Profiler to start it up :) Thx Pete "Pete" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:JZZga.6651$[email hidden]... > I plugged the Logitech wheel in I have and it liked about 30%linarity.

Well, I first offered this suggestion to the fixed setup racers in Rascar because many couldn't drive the setup at Bristol as it was far too loose. This change allowed them to race and have a competitive car. I don't need it because my TSW has so much more pedal travel that I can get far greater control for accelerating. Not everyone can afford expensive controllers and that is why things like this are put in the game. Trying to offer a far greater number of people enjoyment in a product is more important than a few diehard hardcore racers. The fact that there are differences between calibrations with the Operating Systems and the Pots does play a role. Cheap? Maybe, but tell that to the guy who can't get a car to navigate well around the track. It also offers up to the individual the possiblity he is either getting on the gas too soon or too hard and chances are he will modify his driving style to take advantage at some point. You have seemingly got more concerned about people using aids in the game than those that are actually cheating and using things outside the game. Where were you when I ranted about the cheaters long ago. It seems now that you are losing races that it has become an all encompassing crusade on your part. I know you are an excellent racer and know how to do great setups but as EA says "If it's in the game, it's in the game." I would agree throttle control would be akin to wheel lock, linearity, (roof riders :) ). I have no problem with that. Stability control improving tire wear? Passing cars 3 wide with no draft in 2002, where draft reigns supreme. As far as I'm concerned, a guy who runs all these setup hacks (all rear weight and aids on) can be considered cheap. I could care less if it's in the game, you are undermining the whole process of ability, and letting the game do everything for you. How is that any different than using a hack? I dont know why but when I ran my ole Pro Digital 2 I had to set linearity to no more than 20% or it became overly twitchy yet with the Momo I must get up near 80%. Go figure :)) Ideally Id like to have more wheel travel for finer control. I get the most "travel" getting up near 100%. Bear in mind I normally use the Logi Profiler where I can tweak that axis in combination with the ingame linearity settings. I remember having this discussion a few years ago and I determined (in my own mind anyway) that it was the centering mechanism of the wheel that had the most effect on the linearity settings in game. Meaning a bungee centering wheel needs much less linearity (20% or so) than a motor driven or hydraulic based wheel like a Momo which depending on centering forces needs to be closer to the other end of the spectrum.. My definition of twitchy is having to turn the wheel fewer degrees of radius to get full lock in the game. "Pete" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:5b0ha.6720$[email hidden]... Sorry, I don't see flipping a car as having more grip. But then again you may not be explaining it correctly. If the grip was stronger I suppose he could roll the car over in the turn but it would still need to hit a curb or another car. If the grip is increased the drag co-efficient would also probably go up thus negating the increased traction. Now if you are telling me that Don has the ability to unpack encrypted files alter the needed values, balance off the checksums that would be affected, re-encrypt and repack the files you must know him better than I. Yes more grip could be an advantage but many other factors need to be taken into account. I'm sorry but this hacking or cheating would be very sophisticated and I don't know many that would be capable of accomplishing it. I think you are reaching for straws. I'm not saying it couldn't be done but to accuse Don is really a stretch. I may be a ding dong but your theories are wing ding. I'm not saying it couldn't be done but to accuse Don is really a stretch. I may be a ding dong but your theories are wing ding. Pete "Kevin King" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:bgnha.11133$qF3.7474@fed1read04... LOL Man you read too into things. You believe this game actually affects my life, you must be spying on me or something. I play this game to have fun, when people manipulate it to something else, that's when I get upset. Makes sense? As far as the flips, you obviously don't get it. If he flipped what does that suggest? More grip ding dong. Tell me having more grip isn't an advantage.

Dont ask me.. Ask Papyrus they wrote the phyiscs code.. I just do what i have to do to make my car wear the right side tires evenly... Don Only makes since based on momentum, actual RF weights at speeds, etc. hello "Kevin King" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:Kxrha.13939$qF3.5513@fed1read04... Don remember Atlanta? You didn't beat me then. How does 1640 balance the car? Explain how it does. "Don Wilshe" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:oroha.68082$[email hidden]... I wish you guys would use the correct term, I never said its a CHEAT, I said its CHEAP. KK, First off its not cheap to run any weight the game allows you to. I think its matter of fact smart to try and balance your car. For you to call anyone thats its cheap to run a legal weight is BS.. ill change all my setups to 1950 Forward weight so you can get around me.. lol DW
Last year I was in a league race ( Nascar 2002) and flipped my car. i think it was only a once roll over. After that flip I was alot faster than before it. Why? The roof was lowered in the roll over. i had a lot less drag and the car ran like a charm. The damage modeling leaves a lot to be desired. The track was loudon. Wish I had the replay.

Kevin, some controllers have very little pedal movement and there isn't much of a margin of error. Some of the expensive wheels have 3 or 4 times the pedal throw of the cheaper wheels. Its easier to be more precise with a TSW or ECCI. I'm not sure of BRD or some of the other Euro brands and the pedals by the individual in NZ as they also look pretty good. But the majority don't have those pedals. Pete "Kevin King" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:J1Fha.21519$qF3.14822@fed1read04... Why cant you use your foot?

Not sure what you mean here. Different controllers have different responses. Just like some people need a higher steering ratio than others(because of amount of travel), the same probably happens with the throttle.
