Guys, I hate to say it but I think there is a new cheat out there :(
I just ran in an open 2x Dega Race (it was a disaster - I should have known
better).
The length was set to make a pit stop mandatory.
Everyone who didn't pit ran out of gas. EXCEPT for one person. He never
pitted, and won the race by a lap.
He also left the server very, very quickly after the race was over.
Damn...

Notable threadSuspected fuel-mileage cheat in NR2003 online races
Larry reported an open Talladega race in which one driver finished without the mandatory pit stop and suspected a memory cheat. Others pointed to earlier RAM cheats, and Papyrus's Eric Busch replied that NR2003 encrypted and randomised sensitive physics values in memory, that beta testers had failed to reproduce old cheats, and asked for proof of any working cheat. Posters also complained that the promised patch had not appeared.
With Eric Busch (Papyrus)
Automated summary.
Sadly it's not a new one, I have heard of someone extending the gas mileage
before.

No, you need to adjust to your spotter's timing and keep on top of
the situation around you. If it even looks like someone is getting a
fender under me, I assume that he's a "car inside". I don't wait for
the spotter.

IMO, they aren't going to garner any respect by cheating. And they
really didn't win. Maybe they're afraid of losing?

Besides that, I think you're jumping to conclusions. To state that there
might be a cheat based on the information given, is a bit presumptuous.

Actually we do, otherwise we wouldn't have bothered to make the efforts
to encrypt and randomly allocate memory for sensitive physics parameters
in NR2003. Not to say that one doesn't exist (where there's a will
there's a way), but I've yet to see a working RAM cheat for 2003. If
anyone manages to come across one, by all means send it in...

But then again, Blizzard patched Diablo II almost 2 years after it's
release.

Considering that the VRW and MHOGaming servers are filled with
posters/lurkers that are related to Papyrus (either ex-testers, beta
testers, ex-employees, etc..) , I find very bizarre that a Papy employee
would contradict what most of the people are seeing while racing, that they
don't know of any cheat.
It's the #4324 case of Papy employees vs. their customers.
Or perhaps it's just denying for the sake of PR denying. Works for the
government, no? ;)

I've never seen a working RAM cheat for 2003, nor to my knowledge has
any current Papyrus or Sierra employee. The beta testers were in fact
specifically tasked by me to try and duplicate the cheats that were
possible in previous products, but there were no reports that they were
ever successful. If you or anyone else has definitive proof to
contradict that, please let us know (and by that I mean more than simply
saying PlayerX is faster than me, so he must be cheating).

EVERY car that tried ran out of gas except the guy who won. Period.
