RASCAR Monza road course race recap
John Simmons urged RASCAR members to read the forum before the Monza race and later reported that only four drivers took part, with Neil winning by 34 seconds. Absentees gave excuses ranging from GPL league conflicts to the FA Cup final, and Larry admitted practising the wrong track.
online racing/leaguesNASCAR Racing 2003 Season
Automated summary.
You slackers that aren't racing on the roadies are missing some of
the best racing so far this season. There were only four drivers
today.
Neil won again today by a large 34-second margin over 2nd place (me
again). ZZ Busch and Larry had a number of problems, and I think we
all lost it at least once.
We were done by 1:20pm eastern.
This is pretty damn frustrating - the track was free, a practioce
server was available BY REQUEST all week, and we're running open
setups, no cautions, and moderate damage at these GPL tracks. I fail
to understand why we don't see more people at these races.
BTW, I haven't seen Mitch, Tim, or Brian around the track in a long
while. Where the hell is everyone?
I would have been there but for a conflict with a GPL league. I figured that
if I dropped out early I could join the RASCAR race but that was not the
case and the race finished too late to join. Sorry I missed it.

The words "spring" and "summer" and even "outside" come to mind 8)

Even if I wasn't, my GPL league race started later
Saturday, so it conflicted.

Sorry, but that is Saturday evening here, which is the worst possible
time of the week for me to sit inside on my computer. And it was FA
Cup final day, which is a big event for people who like their football
played using feet.
I didn't do so hot, but I showed up :)
I have no one to blame but myself. In my best Michael Waltrip imitation, I
practiced the WRONG track. For some reason, I thought the race was at Roehn
(or however you spell that). I don't know why I thought this.
I spent most of the week rebuilding my Terminal Server so I haven't been on
the forum all week or I would have noticed :)
In the 30 min practice, I managed to get a pretty decent setup done. Mainly
the gearing, steering ratio and grille tape. Other than that, the fast
setup was just fine.
My achille's heal was the last turn. Twice I missed my braking and went off
the track. I SWEAR that sand was more like ice than sand because it sure
felt like you picked up speed once you were in it!
And because of the 1st gear I was running I had a really hard time getting
out of there and lost over a minute just there alone.
One time was my fault (just missed the braking point), and one wasn't. One
of my 100 pound Golden Retrievers crawled under the desk to lye down at my
feet, as usual, and he sat down on my right foot mashing the gas down full
right as I was getting to the braking point for tha turn.
Oh, well. Racing is hazardous :)

That sounds pretty close to the reason I'm late for work is that my dog ate
my alarm clock : )

says...
The correct track was also listed on the schedule page. :)

My first Golden, Rusty, did that back in 1988 :)
I still have that clock, a little watch-battery style portable. Tooth marks
and all. I haven't used it in years, but I can't bring myself to toss it
away.
I lost Rusty to Cancer in 1998.
You know how it is:)

I know, but this was a week that didn't lend itself well to looking :)
Like I said, no excuses. I just blew it.

So, your race 'literally' went to the dogs...?

Kinda makes last year's drought seem like the "good old days".

Sorry John, woulda been there, but I am not sure if my wheel turns to
the right...
Seriously though, I am in another league now and I find it hard enough
to find time to get the much needed practice on tracks I do know and
have been running for several years let alone tracks that I have never
seen before. If I woulda had the time to practice I woulda been
there.
