Flame warMitch_A relaunches RASCAR with group-decided rules

Mitch_A announced that RASCAR would continue without John Simmons, with rules decided by committee or vote and a minimum standard for drivers. Bruce Kennewell objected to his 'numbskull' wording, Joachim Trensz liked the experience requirement, and Kyle Roberts noted RASCAR was meant for newcomers. Tony Rickard and others questioned the legitimacy of the new leadership, and the thread again descended into insults between Simmons, redTed and Mitch.

online racing/leaguescommunity/metaNASCAR Racing 2003 Season

Automated summary.

Mitch_A 25 Aug 2003 05:19 UTC#56571
RASCAR will continue without Mr.Simmons micro-management. RASCAR is for RAS readers that wish to run in an informal yet competitive atmosphere. As was in the original RASCAR charter. No individual will make any rules without group consent. Either a commitee or group voting will decide what few manageable rules are desirable. The one key difference will be a driver selection process. We can't afford to let any nubmskull fresh from the pickup circuit come and cause numerous yellow flags so we want experienced racers only until we can establish a testing/entry process to help weed out non-drivers that just happen across RAS. This isnt to say they will be instantly barred from competition but a testing process is a must. The server has been secured but is currently un-tested. During this week it will be setup for a few evening practice/testing races. Stay tuned. The races will be on Saturdays at 4pm est. An invite list will eventually be in place but the first few races will be password protected. We will continue to use http://forum.racesimcentral.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=142 as our Forum unless informed otherwise. The DM will be the same as weve run since last year. This week Darlington 40%. We want clean freindly racing and encourage participation from everyone involved. The group that is getting this going is looking for members that wish to contribute any skills to help make this a better place to race. Ed can you hear me? You can have your job back and get some say on how you race :) You can contact me for the password directly at [email hidden]. RASCAR is back and WE ALL have a say this time around!
Mitch, with respect, you need to tone down the descriptive somewhat in order not to offend we numbskulls out here. The essence of good management is diplomacy, mate. Bruce. I think, though, the approach of introducing a certain minimum quality level for joining is interesting. If you want clean, good racing without extremely threatening rules and penalties, admitting only mature and experienced drivers is the way to go. Oh, most certainly, Achim. I wasn't criticising the intent, only the wording, which may be taken as a slap in the face by some. (The "numbskull" bit, that is). Bruce. AAMOF, I think Mitch used that term on purpose, to avoid that the RASCAR guys might get withdrawal symptoms after what they've been used to in the past weeks ;-) Achim "Bruce Kennewell" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:3f49c988$[email hidden]... > Oh, most certainly, Achim. > I wasn't criticising the intent, only the wording, which may be taken as a > slap in the face by some. So,please tell. Why didn't you guys just organise this a couple of weeks ago. You were told if you didn't like it, leave. But you wouldn't. Like I said in a previous post. Some people had an agenda to piss off John and cause the demise of Rascar to suit their own ends. Yeah they pissed off John, but didn't count on Eldred pulling the server. Going to interesting to see how it all works out. These committees and selection criterea. Sounds pretty eletist. One of the original purposes of Rascar was to give people that frequented RAS but didn't have a lot of online racing experience someplace to get there feet wet and find good clean racing without worrying about messing up someones race in a league that tracked points. Either "As a matter of fact" or "All about monkeys on fire". Kyle
You said it Kyle: 'good clean racing'. Good clean racing simply doesn't happen unless you take a few precautions. One of the potentially effective ones is what Mitch suggested. It was supposed to be newbie and non-legacy stock car driver friendly, but if Mitch wants to do it that way, he can do it that way. As long as *he* does it. Besides, there's no-one in RASCAR I would call incompetent as a driver. Some don't take the effects of latency into account as much as I would like to see and some seem to find it hard to judge another driver's speed, but that's about it. Situational awareness errors seemed to be on the decrease since I started the reviews, so that was no longer an issue, IMO. Jan. =---
Ok. All I want is somewhere to race when it suits my schedule. Which is 6am Aussie time. 4pm for the Rascar races. I can't join a league as family and work commitments prohibit. Thats why I joined rascar. Can't join pickup races, as everyone has their max lats set so low that anyone in the southern hemishpere not on broadband can't join. The aussie servers that have a decent number of drivers in them are league servers. like I said. Out of the question. So, I'm willing to give the new revamped Rascar a go. I might be pissed at the situation, but I got to live with it. So guys. Is anyone that supported John, Eldred and Jan going to be welcome? I don't give a shit who is and isn't in control anymore. As in previous posts, life is too short to worry about petty little things. I just want to damn well race!!!!!!! So, everyone get their shit together and get this show on the road and boogie. I just want to damn well race!!!! Steve see, I can be nice at times:-)
Jan, I didn't understand Mitch's comment as referring to anyone currently driving in RASCAR. I also think that drivers who cause accidents more frequently aren't necessarily incompetent. They often are just a bit impatient, or not sufficiently emotionally detached for some reason :-) That's not incompetence, it's a momentary lapse of reason ;-) and I firmly believe that on the level where we are driving, this is the most common cause of accidents. As I said before, I have my doubts about the long term feasability of that system. I'm afraid you're going to get 10 opinions and no concensus. But, beggars can't be choosers. I have no opportunity to do it myself so I have to support the person who does. Secondly, good intentions and a server do not a league or, if you insist, a club make. It won't update a webpage, post results/replays and keep a carset updated. Neither will it mediate disputes between drivers. Jan. =---

Elitist, hardly. I NEVER wanted to do anything against the greater good of RASCAR. I dont want to RUN anything but now WE havent much choice except John re-taking RASCAR which is un-acceptable to me and others. Or in this case give everyone some input keep the rules as simple and clearly defined as possible and hope we ALL put enough peer pressure on the bad drivers to make them improve. Peer pressure is a much better weapon than any threat. Eldred really never had any authority to put John in charge and when the impact of that decision failed he should have just let John fade back to painter/driver status. Thats just an opinion btw. We had many opportunities to resolve any issues but JS refused anything but his way. Mitch "Steve Whitty" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:3f49d1da$0$4191$[email hidden]... > So,please tell. If you understand youre not at pace speed and understand the guys AT pace speed have little patience then you likely wouldnt have any problems. Well it's good to see that you guys (all of you) havn't given up yet... just as it's bad to see things go pant's in the first place. What can I say..? - well, it takes two to tango! Let's put history behind us and look forward... I'm afraid I can only offer limited help at the moment Mitch... When I dropped out I did so for several reasons, but the main ones were a) IMHO, the races really sucked and b) the racetime didn't really suit my very well.. Even with better races (if/when that comes) - there will still be the illsuited schedule. :o( I might drop in every now and then - but thats about it. I still plan to set up a week-nights division so I can free up my weekends. I just need to sort out a few things first. I can however, offer my assistance with regards to the web-site. *If* someone can help share some of the duties I'll be happy to go back to being a webmaster. I was hoping to use the RCS site for both division in the future and this way we can get a head-start - if thats okey with the rest. If anyone want to take the task alone, just let me know and I'll send over the details. What ever you guys choose to do - I wish you all the best of luck on your new ventures. :o) -- ed_ ----------------------------------------------- $10 says Petter Solberg wins the 2003 WRC

As for the experience... it's just one of those things you learn but cannot be thought - if that makes any sense... It's all about know what to do when and *why*.... but perhaps more importantly - what *not* to do. Yes, that is a good question. I have a simple question. Why should I have certain guys race with the new RASCAR when 5 minutes ago, when certain people felt they were in charge, they pounded their chest in unison and then kicked me out of the old RASCAR? When Eldred pulled his server, Jan said at the forum that RASCAR would continue, but WITHOUT me. Should I act like them, or better? David G Fisher

It is not the fact I can't actually have babies, not having a womb, which is nobody's fault, not even John Simmons, but that I can have the right to have babies. Thank you Mitch. Why would anyone support someone who had nothing to say to them but stop kissing John's ass is beyond me but I certainly will not. I will say this, Unless your able to apologize to at least 3 people you publicly accused of sucking up to John every single time we offered HIM support you can lay claim to the big fish in a small pond all you like and it will never make you anything more than an agitator who grabbed the ball and said it was his. Oh excuse me, OURS, lol. I will never race on a server you admin, won't ever happen. You're antics were absolutely in no way less offensive than anything John said or did. Your ridiculous arguments, flaming, and pompous righteous holier-than-thou attitude, and bravado attempts at claiming you are for the group, while simultaneously changing it's core idea of an open invite policy, simply show just how incapable you are. You don't even deserve the respect of explaining it to you personally since your obviously so incapable of grasping it. You want, YOU, want RASCAR to be just another league, with the same closed doors all the others have. Your version of RASCAR will not only not survive, you will only be remembered as the single person who alienated a decent guy like Eldred who happened to have a good server, and knew what to do with it. -- Tim White

With good intentions, I am sure, but... Who is the group "getting this going". Who are they and why should they be in charge when the rationale for change was based on John's authority being questioned for assuming control in the first place? Decisions have been made - start time, race length, forum etc. How will the driver selection process work and how will it be decided - by the whole of RAS, the defined group above, or by you alone? Running by a committee of everyone is fraught with problems, delays and a good deal of frustration for everyone. The above examples show how you are forced to cut corners and make decisions. Even though they are for the good of the group it still contradicts the RASCAR is for RAS concept. Isn't it better to elect a leader or organising group with a mandate to lead for a period if you want to go down the democratic route. Otherwise it is just hyprocrisy to oust an unelected leader with another one based on the desire for democracy, no matter how well meaning the rationale. You can act how you like. It doesn't matter whether I drive in RASCAR or not, just that there's a RASCAR. I did what I felt I had to do to keep it going. As long as it doesn't interfere with your performance on the track, drivers are permitted to have babies, but only on pit road. Lastly, nobody will be allowed to discuss the new babies after 9pm on the Tuesday immediately following the birth. > It is symbolic of our struggle against oppression by the old Rascar > regime... Ok, Goy's been too quiet through all this. Maybe we should mention Aussie V8's to wake him up:-) On a more serious not. I'm going with Jan on this one as well, about putting our support to the Rascar Mark 11. We all cleared the air this week. Now everyone knows what each others views are. Me, I don't hold any grudges against anyone. I spoke my mind of the situation as I saw it. If I upset or offended anyone, well I can't do anything about that. But just because I got pissed off with someone, doesn't mean I hate or dispise them, its just that we have a difference of opinion. End of story. RAS is like a family. Simple answer to a simple question, Its called maturity. Not having a dig at you there. We all voiced our views. Now its time to get on with rascar and racing. Sure, you may not like everyone that is racing alongside you, but shit happens. I don't know about you guys. But RAS was fairly quiet lately. This shit fight really livened the joint up. But now its time to all act like adults(no dig intended) and get on with it. Steve
Bingo! I could not imagine anyone wanting anything to do with this mess. How and why was this Mitch character even allowed to race let alone run the damn thing after his latest behavior? Yes, but, once the novelty factor of racing the guys from the newsgroup wears off, it can only get old. And it does... quicker than I would have thought, actually. Jan. =---

What part of "I was not" confused you? Although John thinks he achieved total control of RASCAR, he never really did. It was an *attempt* on his part, and it failed. Yo won't see that from Mitch and I. Read the forum again. I don't know why you are being so negative Tony. I said a days ago before John quit that I was hoping you and some of the other early RASCAR drivers would rejoin. I always liked racing with you, and thought you were the type of driver we needed more of. You've been doing your best to put a negative spin on much of what Mitch and I have posted the past two days though, so I give up trying to convince you. Still hope you join though. David G Fisher

The RAS Sucks paint job was a touch of wit deserving of British humour :) > You've been doing your best to put a negative spin on much of what Mitchand > I have posted the past two days though, so I give up trying to convinceyou. Well its not like you to give up David, I have been unimpressed with the leadership development (explanataion follows), but have kept well out of the slanging matches you will find and it is not personal. Depending on your viewpoint having not been involved I either don't have enough information to comment or can stand back and have an objective view. From my spectator's seat I have seen a big slanging match in which some pretty offensive things have been said and two of the worst offenders then expect the support of the group. Usenet can be tough to be restrained, but I have to say I think you could talk your way to a red card in the tunnel on the way onto the soccer pitch! I stated before that I felt Mitch's post was well intentioned but it is inevitable that assuming leadership even under the concept of complete group ownership will appear to be a coup. I think it naive to think that it can run as a committee of all. Already some decisions have to made and then all of your arguments about rights to make decisions against John fall apart. I have been negative because I can see it happening all over again. Whether you see it this way or not, Dave, you and Mitch do like to pursue an argument through to the bitter end when others might bite their lip (or whatever the keyboard equivalent is) for the sake of diplomacy. In which case someone like Jan might be an easier choice for the RASers to get behind to handle sensitive situations. That doesn't mean I wouldn't want you to be part of the decision team at all. Following the uproar having a more neutral leadership would seem favourable. It appeared to me that Jan had stated he would do it and was soliciting (and receiving) support then Mitch simply told us how it was happening. This may have been poor communication, but a good communicator is exactly what we need right now. Finally you will note I have respect for John. Having raced with him in the past and spent many late hours conversing with John, I like the guy. His blatant humour makes me laugh, just as your RAS Sucks thing did. So I will be biased as I know John much better than I know you - its human nature. Point taken though, I'll refrain from the ribbing (though I liked the JUNTACAR line!) I like that word - "buffoon". I think I'll start using it more... Hey redTed, you're a buffoon! Yeah - that's real classy, and certainly sounds more socially acceptable than something like this: Hey redTed, you're a fuck-wad! At the same time, the RASCAR races were intended to give people a way to get better at racing without worrying about being wrecked. You can't get better at racing if you're always under caution. That's what I was trying to fix.

Hey, look ... Jethro's found his swear book.. Stop showing off. Did they teach you that kind of language "In the Navy", sailor ? Somehow, I don't think anyone cares what you say anymore. You've had you're 15 minutes of fame and now you will regret letting me out of your pen. I won't post a link as it's getting late, and I don't want to be responsible for people having horrific nightmares.
So a rule sending the leader to the rear at start of next race, or no chatting rule, or time limited discussion rule all made the racing better? In what way? You say one thing then implement rules that have no relationship. We all know they were your pet peeve rules but you'll never see that. You can justify anything so theirs no arguing. Why don't you just come and race. You said thats all you wanted. "John Simmons" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Actually, John, your inference that the word "buffoon" means an ape-like appearance and intellect is not correct, I;, afraid. The word stems from a combination of French ('bouffon') and the Italian word for jester, 'buffone'. Therefore the only implication that could be arrived at is that the subject is a dill, not that he is a Neanderthal. Bruce. I read recently that a paper (I think NYT?) publishes a list of new words annually, which are combinations of two other words. It's an annual competition among readers I think.
