Watkins Glen long course released for NR2003 at The Pits

Jan Kohl announced that Chris Squire's Watkins Glen layout with the boot section was available for NR2003 at The Pits. Bruce Kennewell praised it and asked why NASCAR used the shorter course. Others explained that the boot still exists and is used by other series, which avoid the short layouts NASCAR runs at Watkins Glen and Sears Point.

Chris Squire has completed something that's been asked about since NASCAR Racing 1...if sim racers would ever get a version of Watkins Glen with the boot. Well, now you can...go to our Sim Downloads > NASCAR Racing > Tracks section! And if you'd like to thank Chris or tell us of any problems with the track, please send him some feedback from our feedback page! (especially since our forums still seem to be hosed up). Cheers! Jan Kohl ::: computer security consultant ::: the pits - http://www.theuspits.com castle graphics - http://www.castlegraphics.com

What a great track and so-o-o-o much more drivable than the modern version. Why was the circuit shortened from this arrangement; it's a far better driver's track? Bruce.

The drivers as a group dislike road courses, adding more turns just makes it worse. (But I LOVE it!!) Me, I dislike 1 1/2 mile generic ovals most.

Cliff, I was at The Glen this weekend for the Grand Prix Festival and yes, they still use this section for all races, except during Nascar weekend. Joe "Cliff Roman" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:05k7b.405955$uu5.74127@sccrnsc04...

I do not understand this.. The Glen was not butchered.. the whole track is there. NASCAR only uses part of it, how is that butchering the track?? You guys are acting like they threw part of the track away, its still there for use for any series that wants to use it "Don Hodgdon" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:l6s7b.5550$[email hidden]...

Now if somebody will do a No (Inner) Loop for the new Boot (Long) Glen, I'll be wreathed in smiles.... I have watched quite a few different series run the Glen and Sears Point on Speed and NASCAR is the only one that I have seen that runs short versions of those two tracks. Grand-Am, Trans-Am, ALMS, SCCA Touring, etc. all run the longer versions. Aaah! Well, that's something of which I was unaware, Cliff. Thanks for the info. Incidentally, my compliments to the bloke who created this version for NASCAR 2003 too - he's done a fine job, in my opinion. Bruce. Do you think Nascar doesn't use the long version because that part of the track is so visible from the public road (like from pickup trucks or your car's roof)? Despite the fact that parking there is prohibited, I'd expect quite a few people to watch races from there, as there's plenty of room for parking the car? Nah, I doubt it From what I understand, you can see alot of Sears Point like that also.. The biggest change between the GPL version and today's is the second-to-last turn (left hander) is much tighter than it was before. And the pits have moved/been changed since then... JD

</me flips to that song in my mp3 playlist> My current favorite Yessong is Siberian Khatru, though. :-) I've seen Yes at least twice(maybe 3 times). Great shows. I just need to practice more so I can play as well as Chris Squire...<g> Eldred -- "A voice from the crowd: Right, everyone out of my garden. I've had enough of this!"
