NASCAR Racing 3 track list includes Indianapolis

Fans celebrated that Papyrus's NASCAR Racing 3 track list included the Indianapolis Motor Speedway among 28 Winston Cup and Busch tracks. Some confused it with Indianapolis Raceway Park, questioned GT Interactive's exclusive Indy licence, and noted Pocono was missing again. Posters looked forward to converting tracks such as Riverside from NASCAR Legends to other Papyrus sims, and noted that online play was quoted at 20 or more cars.

Indianapolis Raceway Park and Indianapolis Motor Speedway are different tracks. IRP is a mile-oval I think. No Brickyard.

That will be great!! Just hope It's not a shelf version from ICR....not that it was unrealistic but just not up to the current graphics standards. Also hope they done away with the chicane wall at the Glen. Coot

Notice that Pocono is once again missing from the track listings, confirming that the management at Pocono Raceway are real ***s. Don't for one minute think that Papyrus didn't want Pocono in this release. Are you from that area? Or just like them road courses? I grew up in Riverside, but only went to the track once for an off-road race.
Because you have an unrealistic belief that you can somehow convert Riverside to be used with ICR2? I have a feeling everyone's gonna be sorely disapppointed about the backwards and lateral compatibility (or lack thereof) with the N3/NL tracks. It's probably gonna take a while before we can even make use of the N3 tracks in NL, or vice versa. Personally, I'd like to race Riverside in N3. -- ========================================================= Redneck Techno-Biker (Zerex12) http://www.members.home.net/jms1/index.html Barbarian Diecast Collector (370+ cars and counting) http://members.home.net/jsimm/diecast_index.html Internet Grand Prix Series Season 2 http://www.paddedwall.org/igps2/igps2.html North American Stockcar Racing Online Competition http://www.paddedwall.org/nasroc1/nasroc1.html Super X Philes http://members.home.net/kap/superx/superx.html If you want to send me email, go to the first URL shown above & click "Send Me Mail" in the contents frame. =========================================================

Besides that, anymore the way things are, "exclusive" can be a loose term. TK

"Under terms of the multi-year global agreement, GT Interactive obtains exclusive interactive software rights to the Indy 500, Indy Racing League, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Indy Racing League teams and drivers, for all PC and console platforms." I'm no lawyer, but it could be that the wording of the agreement between IMS and GTI is specific to IRL and open wheel type sims, and that because N3 is using stock cars and simulating the BY400 and not the Indy 500, there was a legal loophole for IMS to allow it's use for N3. *** Tim Wortman *** www.nasscar.com NASS99 Series Director www.4cds.com/racing Official Sponsor of NASS99

John, sorry to disappoint you but "au contraire", fortunately ;-) I don't know if you are aware of this, but you can now convert any track to any Papyrus title except SODA : Off-Road almost. GPL tracks for N1, N2, Icr2, NR99. N1 tracks for N2, Icr2, GPL NR99. Icr2 tracks for GPL, N2, NR99, etc.. If it can be done for GPL, it can be more easily done for N3 and NL, which have a more standard file architecture (3DO and TRK) than GPL. Those tracks might not be public yet, but you never know when they will be :) Well you see the point. Papyrus has the same TRk and 3DO architecture in their .dat so it's very easy now with the knowledge that track editor have to convert tracks into any Papyrus sim. And in the future, I bet you there will be a track editor which will be very easy and user friendly. Im 100% sure of that. I know some people racing GPL Monza with Icr2, Icr1 Brickyard with GPL, Icr2 Australia with NR99, etc.. Everything is possible :) -- -- Fran?ois Mnard <ymenard> -- May the Downforce be with you... It's not a screw-up Jon, it is really in it. It seems that the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Executives have been much more open to track licensing this past year, according license to GTI, EA Sports and now Papyrus, with also SEGA who will have the rights for a DreamCast/arcade title until ugh I think 2002. Now if only Daytona International Speedway would do the same... -- -- Fran?ois Mnard <ymenard> -- May the Downforce be with you... I like both styles of starts.. Standing F1 starts and Pace lap NASCAR starts. Since NASCAR3 is going to be something like GPL with the windows stuff, I wonder if it would work to setup pace laps for the smaller tracks in GPL by doing some conversions? And the other way around? There are many things I like about NASCAR. The biggest thing being the points structure. Wonder if the points structure could be converted to GPL? I'm sure that after really studying the differences, we could come up with league races with the best of the two Sims. (If it's possible to convert more then just the tracks) Mike

Read my message again. Ididn't say it couldn't or wouldn't be done, I just said it would take a while. Despite the somewhat rosey picture you paint, I'd be willing to bet that the tracks in N3 or not just different, but different enough to make it a royal pain in the ass to convert to or from. Sure, there's a lot of existing knowledge floating around about existing formats, but it's ludicrous to think/assume that it will be a walk in the park. I want it to happen, but I'm not expecting any converted tracks to be available until sometime next year. I'd love for someone to prove me wrong, and they can start with converting the N2 Pocono and North Wilkesboro tracks to N3. :-) -- ========================================================= Redneck Techno-Biker (Zerex12) http://www.members.home.net/jms1/index.html Barbarian Diecast Collector (370+ cars and counting) http://members.home.net/jsimm/diecast_index.html Internet Grand Prix Series Season 2 http://www.paddedwall.org/igps2/igps2.html North American Stockcar Racing Online Competition http://www.paddedwall.org/nasroc1/nasroc1.html Super X Philes http://members.home.net/kap/superx/superx.html If you want to send me email, go to the first URL shown above & click "Send Me Mail" in the contents frame. =========================================================

Difference between Daytona and Indy is Daytona didn't try something as dumb as the IRL to drain the profits they would have made with a real 500 miler with big names. :-) Wouldn't it just be hilarious if Bill France said forget NASCAR Winston Cup, there are too many Northerners in it now anyway, I'm gonna bring could old slave-driving moonshiners to the track because that's our heritage. Busch doesn't race there anymore. I'm sure that some n2->n3 track converter will take care of that though, so no worries.

Unfortunately, Hickory is not part of the NASCAR Busch series schedule anymore. It is still in the NASCAR Trucksman series, so if they ever decide to create an add-on for N3/seperate product, we will have it :) Still, I really do think that exchanging tracks from previous titles will be very easy. I just need more Hard Disk space now, with each title converted tracks take way too much space :) 400mb for NR99, 400mb for N2, 250mb for Icr2, 400mb for GPL . LOL Point well taken. Just ponder, if more people actually considered such things as true, would those problems tend to appear more or would you tend to see less of them? Seems mankind has chopped up the earth into countries much like urban youth "groups" chop up cities into "turfs". And its just as ridiculous. Just as the youths have no lawful claim on the land of the cities in order to declare "my turf", and "your turf", the "countries" are also cut up from a planet not wholly owned by those doing the sectioning. And if others weren't so stinking worried about "lording it over" others, much of these power struggles would be non-existant. Greed, power, racism, nationalism, it all stinks. And its everywhere on the globe, I'll admit. But there seems to be a high concentration of each of those here in the good 'ol US of A. Thank you, Jon, I'm glad to see I'm not alone in noticing all this! It really is unsettling to see how commonplace these kinds of attitudes have become in recent years in the US, even to the point of being fully embraced by the mainstream media. What gets me too, now, you can't even attend a race anymore without a warplane flyover before things begin. If *that* don't bring back to mind stories from pre- and early nazi Germany, I don't know what does. What do machines of war have to do with a fun, enjoyable day at the races? Nothing! This is the piece of information that I find most appealing. The idea that we can choose to increase from 24 cars (TEN's limit) to 32 (or more based on the software's limit) as long as we are willing to get the kind of connection required. The point here is WE can make the decisions about how many cars we will support.. not a company with different interests.
