Ok,
I hope the race cleared up for y'all after my demise, because what I saw of
it was pretty poor.
I do have to told my hand up too as I was involved in two yellow triggering
incidents and caused a lot of confusion on another.
To start with the yellow triggering ones I don't know what lap or the how
manieth restart it was, but I thought I'd seen Larry chat he was going to
pit. I thought I could see him behind, but then I started doubting myself as
he was pushing to pass. Let him around at T3, positively saw it was Larry
then thought "I hope he doens't try to make it down into the pits". He
seemed to entertain the notion, so I backed right off suprising whoever was
behind me at the time.
Then, on the next restart I think, I was dropping back through the field,
not having succeeded in making my final lap up. My tyres still weren't up to
temperature so I was taking it easy into the turns. This allowed JLe a run
to the outside, so I tried to keep it on the low line just in case and it
just got away from me. Pretty silly for the game to throw a yellow for that
(I was well out of everybody's way), but it does.
As for the confusion bit. Yellow came out as the leader had just crossed
s/f, so I thought I had an opportunity to make a lap up. Spotter started
giving me stay behind messages, though so I dropped back not wanting to risk
a black flag. The leaders then nearly stopped at s/f again, so I scrambled
to get around just to avoid a big pile up. Again stay behind messages, so I
dropped to the apron and let them go again. Then I got "pass the xx car" so
the spotter had finally caught up to the reality of the situation. Meanwhile
everything was mixed up though and I think some drivers got black flags
because of it.
Guys, I appreciate the gesture, but I'd rather you not stop to give a let
bye. Slow on the back stretch, but keep going at a reasonable lick. In this
case I was pretty sure the game had it wrong, but I didn't want to risk
dropping even more laps down due to a black flag. I think I gave a clear
signal I wasn't going to take you up on your offer by dropping in line
again.
Anyhow, I apologise for my part of the mess.
Jan.

PS.: on the plus side, the cable connect seemed pretty good on my end. How'd
I look?
Chaotic RASCAR race at Rockingham
Drivers reviewed a messy RASCAR Cup race at Rockingham where only 7 of about 23 cars finished. Neil Charlton won, and Eldred took his first podium and the points lead. Several drivers apologised for incidents and confusion over lucky-dog and black-flag procedures, while Mark Seery called the driving standards abysmal.

I believe I may have broken the 2 spin rule this week. Not sure, but I think
I did.

Sorry for anyone that got screwed up by my connection blinking out and the
lockup I had. New DSL and new Radeon 9800 Pro growing pains.

That would be me :( I didn't conciously slow to a crawl - you seemed close
enough to get your lap back but never seemed to get any closer. I should
really have kept the speed up more and I apologise for any confusion - I
understand what we're supposed to do I just got confused. Sorry for any it
caught out.
I managed to get one of them black flags. I pitted to clear it and a yellow
came out just before I entered pit lane. It wouldn't let me clear it so I
was then a lap down plus still a bf. By thetime I cleared it, I was 3 laps
down. Thanks to all those who tried to get me a lap back - you did it better
than my pathetic effort described above - much appreciated. Sorry to James
for my over-exuberance in trying to get one of them back.
We seem to get one of these surreal races every so often - hopefully that's
it for a while.
Regards
Can someone please post the results?

No problem Neil. I came up on the leader a little too hot and had to go left
to avoid. I was right in the path of anyone trying to get their lap back. I
didn't get much damage from it, but later Joon spun in front of me and I
picked up quite a bit of damage from not being able to avoid him.

Driving standards were abysmal last night in general. I'm still too damned
angry to spout out here. I'd only say something I'd regret, suffice to say,
that certain people may do well to consider the virtues of racing marbles
around a fruit bowl. Much safer for them.
MS
Jan,
I announced during the yellow chit-chat that I would be pitting on the next
Yellow. However, that came only 1 lap latter so it obvously wasn't worth
it.
In retrospect, I wish I had of. When I did finally pit it ended up costing
me my race. Just bad luck.

Got the black flag for passing under
yellow.
I was _extremely_ confused and didn't understand until now why that happened
to us.
I, too, was about to enter pit lane to clear the flag when the yellow came
out. Knowing pitting then wouldn't clear it, I cautiosly aborted the entry
to pit road.
From there I really don't know what happened. I was back up on the track,
everything was looking ok, and then a car came down from my blind side 90
degree's to me right into my path. I never saw it coming, and I still don't
know who it was or where they came from. I hit it in the drivers door, and
my day was over.
On to next week :)

So that's not really a good thing then? Oh well, I finished 7
positions better than I started, and I somehow *survived* the whole thing,
so I don't feel too bad about it. I think I probably could have finished
one or two positions higher if I had pitted under the last yellow to get
fresh tires, but that's racing isn't it?
Actually had some good racing during one of the green flag runs towards the
end. When my tires started to go and somebody (Jurjen?) tried to get under
me I decided to see how long I could hold him off by taking the high line.
I think it took him several laps to finally get clear of me. Looked just
like on TV, he would get into the corner and just about pass me but by the
time we got to the exit I had built up more speed and he couldn't quite make
it. Fun stuff.

Sorry I did not make the race. I never even got to practice and
unfortunatly it looks like that may be the case for a good bit of the
spring. I am recently working insane hours and includes Saturday
afternoons.
On the good side of this, the money I am making means that the next time I
am able to join a Rascar race I should be using computing power more up to
the challenge and let me actually see some nice graphics.

As a bowler, I'm *well* aware of that term. But my finish in yesterday's race
had more to do with problems experienced by others than any skill on my part.
You and Neil simply drove away from me - nothing I could do. There were at
least 5-6 other cars that were much faster than I could ever be. They just met
unfortunate circumstances. Same thing happened with Daytona. Don't get me
wrong - I'm happy with my finish. But I'm not going to delude myself into
thinking that it was MY doing.<g>

Show-off ;) <g>
Too bad only 7 cars finished, though... :-(
Well, um... If I read this right you still finished 3rd out of 7 with
about 10 or more starters, right? If so, what's so bad about that? Hey,
if the first two had made a fatal mistake you'd even have won! :)

I think we started with over 20. Regardless of what happened Eldred, 3rd of
20 is great :) Neil and I both "tried" to give ya our spots numerous times
each :))

still so ticked off at McAfee I can't see straight. This was one of
my favorite tracks and we only get to run it once. Oh well, it won't
happen again, McAfee has been removed and is going back. When I
disable something I don't want it popping up little windows telling me
it is disable. How incredibly brain dead is that.
