Notable threadMicroProse denies Grand Prix 3 plans, fans dispute it
Asked about Grand Prix 3, Mark Rich of MicroProse Europe stated that neither Geoff Crammond nor MicroProse had plans for a GP2 sequel and that MicroProse remained Crammond's exclusive publisher. Posters cited a PC Format interview in which Crammond discussed a new game and attacked MicroProse's support for GP1 and GP2. A spoof post in Crammond's name added confusion, and the matter stayed unresolved.

After the GP2 experience I will ignore previews or release dates of GP3.
If I see the first (trustworthy) post saying "I bought it, it's great!",
then I will check it out.
Ever? Maybe. Any time soon? Naaaah!

Let us hope that the recent financial results of micro-prose do not effect the release or development
it was not mentioned in their forward looking statements, which surprised me as they did talk
of a number of upcoming games.
Hopefully someone will bail them out.

At this time there are NO plans by either Geoff Crammond or MicroProse to
create and publish a sequel to Grand Prix 2.
Should Geoff Crammond decide to write another game we will publish it as his
exclusive publisher.
When this happens a press release will be issued which can be read on our
WWW site.
The stories and statements on the Internet and in the UK and US magazines
are speculation and rumour.
There is NO GP3 product due in the Autumn and no racing sim under
development at this time.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This is the scariest part of the message. If
indeed Geoff is married to Microprose we are in big trouble......

Well "Mark", if Crammond ever writes it and *you* people ever publish it
then you'd better do a damn sight better job of supporting it than what
you did with GP1 and GP2.
Until you do so then Microprose will always have the stigma of really
not giving two hoots about their customers once the product has been
bought.

I have been listening to all of you whine for the last two years and I must say I'm ***y well sick of it. "We need this and we need that. The program wasn't finished, bah bah bah." I have to admit that Microprose was not the best choice but give me the benefit of the doubt, will you? I don't intend to go back to them.
However, if you really wanted to show your support you should have gone out and bought the game. Shouldn't you have? I read these groups, and everybody seems to have a copy, but Microprose assures me that only 1400 copies have been sold world wide. So what am I supposed to do with 2500US? You had all better think about the ways in which you show your appreciation in the future. Hadn't you?
For the record, GP3 is done. It's not a 3Dfx mock up of GP2. We started from scratch. It has full dynamic weather and a physics model that makes GPL look like child's play. It will run on a 286/40 with 2meg ram. It does require voodoo2 though.
You can't have one. Me and my friends are going to play all by ourselves. Maybe we'll post some screen shots and pictures of us in our Hyperstimulators, drinking Guinness.
Maybe we won't.

Btw, we ALL know that Geoff is having some long-time vacations (errr this
means 3years) in his Hawaiian island he bought with the Gp2 money he got
(didn't do nothing after the publishing, so all the money went into his
pockets (well most of it)). He also made the construction of a
multi-million mansion in this island, with an incorporated private race
track for his enjoyment.
Note that those are not speculations, but the goddarn truth !!!

Oops! ok you got me there? I meant libel.
8-)
Your right the publishers have *probably* not libelled anyone, I was
just exagerating my point, eg:- the fact that GC *allegedly* had agreed
to, and has given this interview, and now we have Mr Rich stating the
exact opposite to what GC *allegedly* said in the interview?
Mr Rich stated "The stories and statements on the Internet and in the UK
and US magazines are speculation and rumour" - surely this means that he
is saying the article is not correct? or, he is saying what GC
*allegedly* said was not correct?
He *must* be saying one or the other? GC appears to be saying GP3 *is*
coming, Microprose (through Mr Rich) is saying it is not!!!
Confused, you will be?
I personally put more weight behind what GC says, than what Mr Rich
says? We shall see......

<utter BS snipped>
Actually I thought more stupid than funny.
Trev
To All :
If this fictious product called GP3 is to be released in the Autumn, would
it not have have been an idea to publicise it big time at the recent E3 show
in the US?
As for the magazine article, you had best ask PC Format who ran it rather
than MicroProse. We have all been told that although a future racing sim is
a possibility from Geoff, and although he is always working to improve his
product, no GP3 is being published in the forseeable future. Our internal
UK Studio artists who helped create the graphics for GP2 are all currently
working on the next XCOM title which will be released at the end of the
year. They are NOT currently working on a GP3 which they would have to be
if it were being launched in a few months (according to the magazines).
We all understand the frustration that you all feel about wanting another
racing sim. GP2 was very popular and sold well over a million units
worldwide and we received a great many "thank you" letters and calls to us
but no development work is underway for another racing sim at this time and
as has been said many many times before, when we do publically annouce that
a new sim will be developed a press release will be issued on our WWW site.
Another thing to consider is the average development time needed for a game
is 18 months to 3 years. Also the cost of a licence from FOCA for the
product is a lot of money. This licence would be needed before we could
release the program, if we had one.
Just to recap, NO GP3 at this time.
Regards,
Mark Rich/MicroProse-Europe
