Flame warList of the best PC racing sims by category

Mr T posted a list of the most realistic sims in each category and asked for opinions. Suggestions included rFactor mods for F1 and GP79, Richard Burns Rally for rally, ARCA Sim Racing over NR2003 for stock cars, and Live for Speed. A side argument about buying ARCA by mail across borders turned into name-calling.

Hi, From my understanding the following is a list of the "best" racing simulators for their category. By "best" I mean most realistic and lifelike. Of course, there will be differing points of view as to which ones are the best which is why I'm putting this list out there. rFactor can probably fit into most of the categories but I've never actually used it myself. Nascar 1. Nascar Racing Season 2003 Modern Formula 1 1. F1 Challenge '99-02' Vintage Formula 1 1. Grand Prix Legends Australian V8 Supercars 1. GTR2 (V8 mod) GT 1. GTR2 Classic GT 1. GT Legends Please alter the list and add other categories if you feel obliged. Regards, Mike.

As you mentioned, rFactor goes into a lot of places. I'd put the BMW Sauber F1 addon at the top of the heap for F1. Yes, it's only 1 car, but it's still better than F1C as a whole imo. I'd also suggest that Richard Burns Rally will get the nod in the Best Rally sim.

Mr T wrote: > Vintage Formula 1 > 1. Grand Prix Legends You consider 1979 vintage? If so, GP79 rFactor mod is better than GPL, IMO.

Nascar Racing Season 2003 I think ARCA Sim Racing beats N2003 in most every category. Pat Dotson I'd have to agree. But then I've never driven a stock car-- ARCA is just newer and from what I've heard, from those who undoubtedly know more than I do about these things, ARCA gets the nod. A little OT, I do think ARCA needs to add some tracks. All this stuff like "we're just about finished with this or that track", said three weeks ago, is getting a bit stale. Also it seems to me that the developers-- or at least some of them-- have very little patience when someone asks about the tracks and the patch. ARCA is fun, though, I'll have to admit. Alan

There's always the post.

It wasn't too much of a hassle to me. It took the game four business days to reach its destination. I know others had some problems getting the game. And one thing that strikes me as a bit odd is that (OT) the developers of ARCA are very touchy. They seem to have an excuse for everything, and have had a few tracks "almost finished" now for a couple o' weeks. If you post something on the negative side at the forums, your thread will get closed almost immediately. I can understand where the developers are coming from. No response at all or just a response like we are listening and things will get fixed when we are sure we haven't created new problems is better than pretending there aren't many problems as it is. In the Age of Immediate Want many users have very little patience, including the developers, who have no patience with posters who have no patience. Alan

Whatever you do, don't use the word 'cunt' on the internet! What a shitstorm that would cause. MRSisson -- LOAD "GPL",8 SEARCHING FOR GPL LOADING READY. RUN
Quentin Queerbottom wrote: > Where do you live then, Outer-fucking-Mongolia? You're hardly going to > get stung for much tax on 50 bucks, you tight cnut! I once got stung on a cross border shipment for a free game. Customs deemed it's value at $60.00 so I had to pay tax on it and a $5.00 handling fee. Then there are those asshole courier companies that charge a brokerage fee too. Fucking right I'm a cheap cunt, and with good reason too.

Seriously, though, it would be nice (and I know, I'm a cunt for saying this) if you could add some substance to your posts. All you do is through in that gender expletive (pejorative, if you like), repeating thereafter the preceding posts. It would go something like this: "Well, I think the FF needs some tweaking." Your response might be this: "Tweaking, yes-- stupid cunt developers." So how about a little meat... er... substance? Alan

CMR? Hardly. RBR for sure in that category. I'd give ARCA the edge over N2003 for stock-car racing. ARCA does need more tracks. But don't ask for anything or inquire when the patch and all are coming, 'cause they will scream you down and close the thread. They have a weird way of interacting with their customers, as though most of us were idiots. Alan

Its a lot more current in graphics than GTA3 or GTA: Vice City were. And GTA IV will be even better when it hits the PC market. -- Mika Takala

Whatever, depends on your definition of a sim, I personally think they are very good simulators if played on the simulation setting, not the arcade setting.

Live For Speed has more realsitic driving model than all of them even if the cars are made up names.

Well, if they actually sold it in the store I would buy it and find out for myself. No wonder they complain about not making any money from games when they only sell it to a part of the potential market.
