Is this for real or what?I need to know something official.Where do i look ?
Pat.
I hope this isn't just spreading a rumour.
Is a 3Dfx patch for NASCAR 2 really coming?
Users asked whether a 3Dfx Glide patch for NASCAR 2 was real. Posters cited 3Dfx staff saying they were developing it, aiming for Christmas, using Papyrus's code. John Wallace insisted nothing was official until Papyrus confirmed it, leading to bickering over who could announce it.

It is for real, 3dfx have publically stated they are working on it.
They are hoping it will be done by Xmas.
Joe
yes, this is very much for real. there are posts up from the guys at
3dfx.
it is using GLIDE not D3D, so it is going to be great im sure!!!

If this 3DFX patch is using GLIDE, that means it will be both DOS &
Win95 capable. If so, the smart direction for 3DFX programmers to take
since the game is both a DOS/Win95 game.
I prefer to play N2 in DOS. It's much faster on my P200MMX
i have a p200 (classic) with a 4mb millenium and yes, dos is much faster.
GLIDE is going to be great!!! (even if it just smooths out the graphics
and better distance view, ill be happy either way!!)

So far _nothing_ is official.
Cheers!
John
what do you mean nothing is official. 3dfx has said them selves that it will be
out around christmas. sounds pretty official to me.

And 3dFX own _what_ part of NASCAR2? Nothing at all. I very much doubt
that 3dFX can make any decision on a 3dFX patch, so until you hear
from Papyrus themselves what will happen about a 3dFX patch, what
features it will have, what products it will support (NROS etc) then I
wouldn't be getting too worked up.
Like I said, it ain't official.
Cheers!
John
you sure are opionionated (if thats how you spell it) arent you :)
ss
btw: 3dfx said they have the go ahead from papy.
Maybe Mr. Eric Busch could find out for us, since he has friend working at Papyrus.

fact. The last I heard there was NO go ahead given from Papyrus to
3dFX, which was about three days ago. Unless you know it has changed
since then, it looks like we're both opinionated.
I can't imagine that Papyrus would decide not to release the 3dFX
version, but be aware it's not certain yet. Keep sending Papyrus and
3dFX your Christmas wish lists and ask them both nicely for 3dFX
NASCAR2.
Cheers!
John
Well, even if they didn't get the go-ahead, they are doing it, and they said
it will be here by Christmas, so even if the don't have Papy's permissions,
it's being worked on.

you know it!!!

For thre record, so am I - just in case someone hadn't noiced yet. ;-)
I can't imagine that either - I can only just barely imagine the size
of the s#&$-storm coming down if 3dfx finishes the patch and Papyrus
chooses not to release it.

I'll get you my little pretty, and your little dog too...
Obviously you dont read this newsgroup, or you are new. There has been
official conformation that a 3dfx patch IS COMING for n2

There's no doubt it's being worked upon, that much is beyond question.
Cheers!

Seriously now, what fun would discussions be if people weren't
opinionated?
I think I'd stay over on CompuServe for a few weeks. I reckon folks
would get a bit tetchy around here </understatement>.
Cheers!
John

Ouch! Love-15. <s***> I love a snappy rejoinder :-)
Cheers!
John
If you believe the latter then you must yourself be the former.
No, there really hasn't. 3dFX do not own NASCAR2, and hence they
cannot "officially confirm" anything other than that they are working
on it - they have no influence in the decision of when/if to release
it. Hence the reason that everyone should politely ask Papyrus to put
this at the top of our Christmas wish list.
Cheers!
John
PS - POLITE : a. having refined manners, courteous; cultivated,
cultured; refined, elegant.
ROFL! Someone obviously in "opening mouth and placing foot deep inside"
mode....
John may be splitting hairs here but he is 100% correct in what he has
been saying.
Cheers,
Richard

I agree, it is usually through disagreements and spirited debate that
anything with some resemblence to truth is revealed.
Joe

just a bit of an understantment thats for sure. this place would be so
crowded with people YELLING it would be scary.
as for opinionated, it great to have your own opinion, but everyone must
still have an open mind to have any sort of discussion, or else it would
be an arguement :)
Steve
what OAM said here should say something more like; "there has been
official confermation that a 3dfx patch IS BEING MADE for n2"
i have sent my polite christmas list to papy, has every one else?

Who is this? John who? never heard of him!
Are we to pick which words apply to you mate :-)
BTW thanks mainly to your positive comments on f1rs i went with it and it's a
winner.
brian
Sniff, forgotten me already... We met last year.
Since you've met me I'd assume you would be more qualified than most
to do so :)
Glad you like it. If you and Stuart are up for some more racing there
may be another "network racing weekend" organised sometime soon near
London. Probably racing F1RS, NASCAR2, maybe TOCA that sort of thing.
Let me know if you're up for it.
Cheers!
John
Hi John,
Give me a shout too, maybe I'll be off work that weekend ;-)
Cheers

Stuart and I were just discussing the exact same thing! Damn, I'll have to
practise.

Well, we're limited only by the number of network connections and the
number of players supported by the games (N2, SODA, TOCA, F1RS).
Coincidentally this is eight. Myself and Mike Laskey were originally
thinking of doing some one-on-one racing, then thought of Stuart and
Brian to get the "famous four" together again from last year's SRN
wheel test. You would make five, so anyone else that might be
interested in a little networked racing in the London/SE England area,
drop me an e-mail. The standard will be pretty high I'd guess, since
Mike is rather rapid. Nothing is finalised so far, just a tentative
thought for sometime in January.
Oh, anyone interested should bear in mind that they'll be forced to
play some deathmatch Quake as well. I simply cannot be in the same
room as a LAN and not do some deathmatching :)
Cheers!
