Notable threadFlame warRick Genter's departure; Richard Manning flames Sokoloff

Asked about former Papyrus regulars, Jim Sokoloff said Rick Genter had left to found the startup 5D Games with other ex-Papyrus staff, and that Ed Martin was still at Papyrus preparing the NASCAR Racing Online launch. Richard Manning responded with profane abuse of Sokoloff over the NRO delay, and the group piled on him, with killfile announcements and complaints to his ISP.

Anyone know whatever happened to Ed and Rick?. I know that Rick left to start a new project. Any word on that? Ed, are you still with Papy? I sure can't blame you for getting tired of all the harassment that you had to put up with in here although I think Jim has done a pretty good job taking over for you. Can't speak for everyone here but I think you guys are definetly missed around here. Mike Lewis
Jim Sokolo 15 Mar 1997#359383
Rick went to form a startup company (5D Games) along with some friends of his from Papyrus, trying to "live the dream." Ed's still here, fighting fires, working on deals, and preparing everything for the NRO launch when that happens. (Let's not start the begging for EXACTLY when that will be, OK?) ---Jim Sokoloff, Papyrus
See thats just it. You guys have this better than thou attitude that we should be not beg for a start up date for NRO. What an ***. (go ahead and flame me you ass kisser Sim Racing) Kiss my ass you pompous *** Jim Sokoloff Fact is the NRO should have been released MONTHS ago! KISS OFF, Richard
How do you know that's it a FACT that NRO should have been released months ago? HUH? HUH? Are you PERSONALLY taking over and bringing it out before it's ready, when then you'll have MORE problems??? I feel that Papyrus is working out ALL the major problems before they announce the NRO; that way they can avoid all the flaming from idiots like yourself. Do you even have a clue as to how much work goes into making something like the NRO work? They have to work with NASCAR to get this NRO thing going...I don't think you even realize that NRO is the 13th nationally sanctioned series for NASCAR, along with Winston Cup, BGN, BGN North, SW Tour, NW Tour, All Pro, Goody's Dash, the Trucks, Winston West, Featherlite Modifieds, the Winston Racing Series, and the Busch All-Star Tour. So, in defense of Jim and the Papyrus team working on NRO: BACK THE F$#* OFF, pal...
OK, you know for a fact that NRO should have been released months ago, huh? HUH? Are you sure about that? Are you personally taking over and releasing it before it's ready? Do YOU work at Papyrus? So...let's see...hmmmm...you would have had NRO out before it's ready....? Do you know what it takes to get something like that ready to be released, with NASCAR being involved? I doubt it VERY seriously. The NRO is a nationally-sanctioned series of NASCAR, just like Winston Cup, BGN, BGN North, SW Tour, NW Tour, All Pro, Winston West, the Trucks, Busch All Stars, Goody's Dash, the Featherlite Modifieds, and the Winston Racing Series. Did you "release" these series before their time...? I don't think you know what it takes to coordinate something like that. So, in defense of Jim and Papyrus... BACK THE F#$* OFF!!!

Gee, just when you think that this newsgroup can't sink any further in terms of rude, low-life, ignorant, obnoxious postings, along comes this moron to prove you wrong. I suppose we should sympathize with little Richie's impatience since it probably stems from the fact that for him, sitting in front of his computer and playing games constitutes his entire life (apart from squeezing the pus out of his pimples and dreaming of the day when he'll lose his ***ity). After all, with a personality and an attitude such as he has displayed here, can you possibly imagine that he has any real life friends! Hey, I'm looking forward to the NRO and the N2 patch, but it's not an obsession. When they arrive, they arrive, and in the meantime I can enjoy Hawaii and N2 just fine, thank you very much. I'd almost be willing to see the NRO and the N2 patch delayed indefinitely just to***this little shit off, although this wouldn't be fair to the rest of us who recognize the talents and efforts of Papyrus, and who have waited patiently (and silently!). To Jim, I wouldn't blame you one bit if you left the newsgroup; I'm sure you don't need the shit and abuse from ignorant little twits like this. I hope you'll stick around though, as your input is appreciated by the vast majority of us. Back to lurking, Ian

<excellent rebuttle deleted!!>> Way to go Jim!! It will probably go on deaf ears, but I bet it made you feel much better. I know I have slammed Papyrus/Sierra a couple of times, and maybe regretted it later. (I assume, however, that most of the problems have to do with the management at Sierra, and not the hard working guys at Papyrus). The only thing I suggest is....do your BEST to ensure that future releases are slightly more finished, and that patches don't take 6 months to appear. This may mean missing a pre-christmas release, but people would be happier. Later, Rick Martel

I think Richie's original diatribe about his age/profession was a feable attempt at respect. I honestly believe the '15' in and be so angry. I hate to think of another 60 years of this guy sharing the planet with us, but then I rejoice in the fact that this behavior tends to be self-destructive. Good luck with the rest of high school. -- - Anti-Spamming Device in Operation - Remove the "*" from my address to send me mail.

Okay folks...I respect Jim a whole lot. He is out here taking EVERYONE'S ***and doing it with plenty of grace. If yall dont like the way Papyrus/Sierra is handling thier small bugs in their games, GO MAKE YOUR OWN GAMES!! They made this for OUR enjoyment and all yall can do is complain. I subscribed to this list to get info on Racing Sims, and all I am getting is a ton of crap. Lay off and talk about the games, not their makers. Richard, "...be not beg..."? From what school is thou from? I suppose something akin to the Captapicas School for Misguided Boys?...or perhaps you attended Afagabegas High?...(BTW, for those interested, these can be translated from Portugese) ;) I guess that wouldn't be too hard to do, what with such a mental-giant as yourself... You seem to have a fixation for attempting to ***-kiss several of the men here in this NG...By chance are you homesick for the "Bay Area in N.CA?" Dr. Ruth musta' told you to be more assertive this week, eh? Now, let's see (this can be fun ~ for a while)...OK, Richie-boy - go get daddy's dictionary, and flame me in 100 words (or less), why it is you must try and get my goat? I don't know you, have I done something to deserve this *** from such an insignificant, corn-huskin', ***-pickin', closet-cross-dressin', racin'-wanna-be, Daytona-USA-lovin', pencil-necked geek such as yourself? I think not. Geez...The pit-fleas in this NG are thick. :|

Hmmm...VP of a big co?...and you can't even afford a keyboard without some sticky-keys...or did you make them that way? I suggest you lay off the Vasalene pal, as it's bad for the hardware. ;)

Its interesting to me how this real mature person would KNOW when NRO should have been released. Maybe he can read peoples minds?....naw..you have to have one to be able to do that... Randy Peppler
Does your mommy know you are using her computer, and that you have such a foul mouth? Get this straight...PAPYRUS OWES YOU NOTHING IN RELATION TO THE NRO! Get it? This is a service they are offering you. A bonus if you will. If they decide not to release it, you lose nothing. You have not paid for this service (yet). Grow up, and try to be rational. Mike

That's OK. He'll***up again, and someone will complain, and he'll lose another ISP. Kids never learn. Someone should explain to his mother the rewards of child discipline. Mike
I just have 1 question for all of you in this particular note on this newsgroup. Do you really want to race against someone with this attitude? I'm not sure I want to be in the same race with him. And I don't think the NRO should accept his application lightly. I think this needs some serious consideration. Tom

What's the point ???? I'm in a much better position. There is 98% of the people in r.a.s. who thinks I'm a great guy and really interesting. But there is 98% of the people in r.a.s who think that you're a bad guy and really moron. Cannot be more simple. I don't know sombody here who hates me (sauf peut-tre un con qui s'appelle RManning et qui se pense intelligent). Also because of the track everybody here has a little bit of respect on me. Thanks a lot, Good race at the Brickyard, (Old'Indytrack guy in rec.autos.simulators) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ =ymenard now!!!
