When I go to the Racing Legends site, it comes up with a page that says it
is an expired domain. Elsewhere on this page, it says that the site is
"parked temporarily until the owner establishes a permanent site".
Does anyone know whats up?
Thanks.
Racing Legends website goes offline
The West brothers' Racing Legends site showed an expired-domain page, prompting jokes that the long-delayed project was dead. J. Todd Wasson said he had spoken to them and it was only a renewal mix-up after an address change, and the site returned. Critics complained about years of hype, rare updates and the much-mocked detailed Lotus transporter, while Wasson said Empire, not the Wests, was to blame for the earlier World Sports Cars collapse.

That's OK, they'll be living in an exquisitely-detailed mid-60's team
transporter, selling teddy bears out the back. <grin>
While no doubt there will be many who will say "I told you so", it's still
sad that such an idealistic bunch (including the cat) couldn't make it work.
It would be nice if this was just a re-grouping phase, and the West brothers
would simplify and refocus, and make more than just in-house technology
demos.

A lot of us wonder why they continue claiming they're working on the
"project". Last website update was in freakin October.
How long has this project been "underway" now? Six years? That's simply
too fucking long for ANY software project.

I for one got on to the WSC beta team along with a shitload of other ppl.
and that was... - three years ago? (I actually cant remember!) We never saw
a beta - heck we didn't see a thing, other than nice screenshots and some
videos.. All we got was "sure - no problem" and "we'll start testing soon".
Although I really do wish them the best and that they do succeed - I really
fail to see that happen. They're team is too small and they are trying to
bite over too much - atleast if they're trying to achive some of the things
they've said they wanted to include in a sim.
After 3-4 years of empty "promises" who can blaim the public for giving up
on them?
I wish them the best and really *really* do hope they'll make it - but I
seriously doubt their product will ever see the light of day..

Yup, agreed. Another problem they've is that they can't focus. Too
many times I've heard they've rewritten the code to DirectX ##. It's
very important when you've a small team to decide on a feature set,
and go for only that. When you start to add every latest and greatest
hardware to your feature set, you'll never come up with a product,
since new gadgets will come out (almost) every day.
It's also important to provide small demo's. It doesn't have to be a
full drivable demo, a floating camera above a track, or a car/object
viewer will do. As long something substantional is available...

No, that's not what happened, Ed. When their site comes back up, read Chris'
"sorry" post in the general forum to find out what really happened. Blame
Empire for WSC, not Chris and Tony.

Isn't criticism widely accepted in making stuff better. You are
wrong, there is a difference from uninvited criticism and constructive
criticism. The West Brothers have invited both, and thus was my

help. They ask, and they shall receive, I don't know why you stick up
for them so much, but no wonder they get criticized, even smaller game
makers give an update once a year...you just missed the point. Maybe
if they listened to what people where saying, that would change,
because as most intelligent people know, not all criticism is bad, in
fact it can help you live your life better, and work better.
Criticism is sometime referred to as advice, and I have just given you
some, stop sticking up for them...it will get you no where. I for one
can't wait for the product and will stand in line, but until it comes
out, and they provide more than a six month update, and prove
themselves to be more reputable than they have been in the past, I
will stay just as critical, as will 99.9 percent of this board, minus
you. Get your act straight, and stop sticking up for them. You have
no proof it exists either.

That's a great post. Do you think Empire bailed when they had to
repeatedly tell the West Brothers to produce some tangible code or when
they found out they wanted to model the Lotus team trailer from 1967?
Empire had no choice to fire the West brothers. They don't produce,
period. RL is their 3rd title. How many have you seen on store shelves?

This (the Lotus team trailer) is what makes me believe that this game is a
big hoax. Why on earth would anyone spend time on this kind of stuff. Do we
really need a highly detailed motor home in a driving sim?!?! Why not spend
the time on the physics engine or the tire model, etc. As a programmer
myself, I agree with J. Todd Wasson, in that it takes a long time to write a
game, so why waste it on such useless items. Why not get a game out the
door, earn some money, and then improve upon it? Is this what Papy did with
the NASCAR series, also EA with it's F1 series?
