N2: End of the race

How to end a race in NASCAR Racing 2

A user asked why his car never showed 'PIT' at the end of a race as the AI cars did. Others explained that pressing Escape ends the race. Jim Sokoloff joked about the complaint, and the thread drifted into complaints that NASCAR 2 was little more than a NASCAR 1 patch, which others rebutted.

Dominic, After a race, wait a few seconds, then press the Escape key. You will see the finishing screen, and then have an opportunity to view final standings. Merry Christmas!

How come it doesn't automatically show you in the pits like the other cars will? It be nice to have consistancy throughout. In other words, it should show on the F2 screen that I made it back to my pit stall. It then should automatically end the race for us without using the ESC key. --- () http://www.pacifier.com/~dtuso () Dominic Tuso () http://www.nicad.com/ () For you NiCd needs () http://www.teleport.com/~cramark () R/C car racing club () http://www.teleport.com/~lzwz/rcsr.htlml () R/C car racing club

OK. You couldn't do it in N1 and you can't do it in N2. The race is over. Get a beer. Whats the problem. -- Chuck Stuart - Mesquite TX USA RaceTime utility program for Nascar1/Indycar2. http://www.metronet.com/~cstuart/

You do not have to pit to end the race, but you do have to allow all the AI to cross the finish line. I ran a 5% race season just to see if they did anything special at the end of the season and I quickly went from race to race. After one race that I won, I exited so quickly that all the AI weren't able to cross the line. I didn't notice it at first but I got the "OK to leave race" message. I said OK. It then put me back at the beginning of that race and I had to run it again. If you think the race is over, but you get that "OK to leave race" message, don't say "OK". Go back in and wait for the AI. If the race is truely over, you should see your car either in victory lane or being pushed back to the garage. I know this might not solve your problem, but without being able to save your race weekend anymore, it might prevent a problem in the future if you ever run an offline series race. David Martin

Unless of course you are running a championship season, finish the race go to watch the replay of yourself just beating Mark Martin at the line (0.0 sec ) hit accel. time and the race never (20 min) finishes, now I have to do another 100 laps a Michigan... thet, in my opinion is a problem. I know that I sould have returned to the car and driven to the pits but I forgot in a moment of passion. The question is when have you or haven't you finished a race? Anthony.

> Yes, I know to hit the ESC button (N1 and N2 are the same). But why do the > AI cars show on the F2 screen that they are pitting, yet my car doesn't. > This even happened in N1. Exactly, there is no difference in the way the sim handles events from N1 to N2. Just goes to show, all their efforts went in improving the graphics, the AI, and the menu. They probably didn't spend more than 40 hours total on the actual simulation. This should have been a patch for N1. It doesn't deserve the distinction of being called N2. David Martin

>David, I don't have a problem with ending the race, but I do have a problem >with the "PIT" status showing up for the AI cars and not for me. Why do you need to see PIT in F2 for your car? Have you lost track of where you are on the track? Look out the windshield... The PIT marking for AI cars is there to tell you when the AI cars pit, presuming that you won't always be in a position to determine that such and such AI car is pitting without seeing it on F2... ---Jim Sokoloff, Papyrus

For continuity's sake, for closure, to symbolize ending the race. No, but the computer might have. Just like it does with yellow flags coming out and me having to race to the cross the finish line three times before I get the wave, mostly its just two laps...) Also with the arcade mode (lapping ya within the first 10 laps of the race, geesh, they're supposed to slow up according to the manual). >}Why do you need to see PIT in F2 for your car? >For continuity's sake, for closure, to symbolize ending the race. Since this bothers you so much, I spent the last ten minutes running a short race as a test (which you could have done as well). My conslusions... The F2 standings only list you making a pit stop while you are actually getting service. That is the only way the computer is sure you are "pitting" (otherwise you might be just passing through the pits or have missed your pit). Once a race is completed, you are not allowed to make a pit stop. This seems logical, since there is no need for service once the race is completed, right? Putting these two logical design decisions together results in you not being listed as pitted when you pit at the end of the race. I guess you'll have to live with it and settle for the closure of the checkered flag (works for me). On taking the yellow, sometimes it takes a while for the entire field to see the yellow (at the S/F line?), then a lap to get the waving flag, then however far behind the leader on that lap you are for you to take the waving flag. That could easily add up to two laps (maybe even three?). The location on the track of the yellow and the ability of the Pace Car to get in front of the pack are factors as well. As far as the Arcade mode running away from you, why not reduce the opposition strength? That's what it's there for. Sorry, but to me it seems like a lot of pissing and moaning over relatively meaningless details, IMHO. No way man, I saw "Days of Thunder," and I just know that Cole Trickle pitted for right side tires after the race was over. I know it, NASCAR 2 won't let me do it, and now I'm pissed! :-) for the humor-impaired. ---Jim Sokoloff, Papyrus

Yea maybe that dood took you out and then you have to get him back but need some new tires to take him good.. Love that movie so real!!! "Im going to draft him and make him pull me around the track" what a stoke of genious here I never thought of that?? ;)

Yep, you're right. All they did was improve the AI, add the spotter, make several tracks more realistic, improve the graphics, conform to Nascar rules better, and make it easy to tweak the setup and race conditions. Hardly affected my enjoyment of the game at all. What klutzes. I eagerly await the David Martin.edu sim. I'm sure it will be spectacular. bob

del I must jump in here. First off, even with the following comment and observations I am about to make, I would like to thank Sierra/Papyrus on this nice but not great "as is in its current condition" followup to an already enjoyable sim in N1. As far as the AI goes. I am getting very frustrated. First, I decide the first track I want to improve and test at as Atlanta. So I spend a few days of my holiday vacation tuning up my setup and finally hit the track. Got brave locked myself in my puter room, told the wife I would be about 3 or 4 hours, and cranked up the Race distance to an official %100. I start my venture knowingly to the issue of not being able to save my race at any point I proceed to the first "Yellow". Okay, its been about 29 laps and the tires are a little worn. Hey great, the spotter just said leader now pitting (which wasn't me of course ;) ) so I decide to follow. I'm in the pit, pull up the pitboard. Wait! What the &^%$!!! Noone but me is pitting. Time for a replay. Nice deek! I'm watching the AI juke pitroad and continue. Oh well, cool feature ;) , just wishing my spotter would have corrected himself. Now I'm back on the track and here goes the green. Spotter- "Slow car ahead". I go high entering turn 4 and whats this???? All these cars are pitting just 1 lap into the green? Okay, so now I'm in first. Wow, that was exciting :( . I continue the race and this same thing happens later. To sum it up. This track is useless for racing the AI. Next choice is Michigan. I spend some time tweeking my setup again and setup the race with the same setting 100%. Okay, first yellow all is well! AI actually pitting under yellow. Now its about 35 laps to go as I'm working my way up through the pack to about 25th now after fixing a little damage from an earlier incident. Hey! I might get back on the lead lap. Spotter, "Wreck on the front straight". I'm in turn 3! Time to barrel on the brakes and "GO LOW"! Wheeeeeeeee, I'm on the grass little but wow!, I'm zooming by the whole pack! I get back on it as I know I have a chance to get back on the lead lap! Around I go back to the wreck! I take my earlier path low and once again I whiz by the AI, "ALL OF THEM" . Whats this? They haven't even moved? Replay! Hmmm, this is strange! All the AI are spun sideways and just sitting behind a wreck. 40 sec.s pass, their still there. Now here I am in first again and breeze on to win the race. Something isn't right here. I'm not that good. Let me re-check my settings. Hmm, opponent strength at 100, Realistic mode, damage, ect.... Guess I mastered this already. On to Nascar 3 for a challenge :( . Please Sierra/Papyrus! Take a look at all the issues that are obviously not right and proceed to patch this product as N1 could have been atleast concerning the AI. This one's real close to being a REAL WINNER! P.s./ I know its not actually a "bug" but a {Save Race} feature would be a nice touch. Somewhat pleased but holding my breath. Ron

REPLY: You see the above scenario quite a bit in my multiplayer experiences since blown engines are common. What happens there is when a player blows the engine if he stops in the line of traffic on the track the AI cars will stop and wait for the tow truck to move the blown car. Now this isn't that realisitic but it sure gives you an opportunity to make up for some lost ground if needed and that can be fun in it's own right. Q.B.M.

Wrong! GP2 does not fair well with my P100 so for now its a mere "display box" on my Sim shelf until I can afford to upgrade or by some far chance a "rendition" patch were released to improve the speed of the slideshow to a playable level for my current system....(this murmer shortened to conserve bandwidth).
