Sierra SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anger at Sierra shipping NASCAR 2 to shops before pre-orders

Customers who pre-ordered NASCAR Racing 2 from Sierra were angry that stores had it first, and some said they would refuse delivery. Adam Levesque explained that shipping to retail first was a business necessity, though some still felt misled by Sierra's promises. The thread was sidetracked by mockery of a poster's spelling.

I preordered NASCAR2 in October and it won't be here untill Monday. Stores here in my town got it on Tuesday or Wensday. I will never order anything from Sierra again if this they can't do better than this. Get this I even payed for two day delivery too. You know what will be happing when it does come? It will be going back to them and they can forget getting my sale too. I will just race NASCAR Racing instead of NASCAR2. Kevin FRANCE

That's exactly what I'm doing, but I'm going out tonight to buy a copy of Nascar2. When it finally does arrive on Monday, I'll just refuse delivery and have it returned to Sierra for a refund. -- Emory University Graduate School of Arts & Sciences Nascar Setups Page: http://userwww.service.emory.edu/~ebusch/

I would never order any game from the manufacturer unless I lived in a rural area or the game was so obscure that it wasn't likely to be stocked in the discount computer stores like CompUSA or Best Buy. Why pay full retail plus shipping and then have to wait for delivery? It may seem like their will be a shortage of a big name game at release, but in my experience that is rarely the case. Think about it, what percent of total CompUSA customers are likely to be racing game freaks like us? Also , it is very unlikely that you will get it before they fill the channel. I got mine today at Best Buy on a raincheck and the shelves were full. The manufacturer can't discount it over the phone 'cause they might undercut the mall stores that still sell at or near retail like Babagges. It's called "channel conflict". Also, they have to maintain a fulfillment department to ship it to you, which costs money. Be smart. Buy your games through the discount channel whenever possible. And don't ever buy on impulse in the mall at Babbages!

Generally I agree, but Sierra had the upgrade for $29 which at the time was the best price. Best Buy did have the $10 rebate to lower their's to that price though. -- Emory University Graduate School of Arts & Sciences Nascar Setups Page: http://userwww.service.emory.edu/~ebusch/
I really don't think there is an upgrade. Just the new Nascar!

Hey putty dude, feel assured there is no one here that sounds ' dumber than you '. That award is yours, and will probably hang on your wall for eternity. Here is your thought for the day: It is better to remain silent, and be thought a fool, than to speak up and remove all doubt. Learn it, live it. Have a nice day.

C'mon, Just try to read what he writes! I don't know Mr Putty, nor do I know any of the many people making use of news groups. Many posts carry poorly written messages and can be difficult to decypher. Sometimes they're sad and sometimes they're funny. I think, and its only my opinion, its best to just comment on the thoughts the writer is trying to put across rather than his spelling, grammar, or educational level. Is the writer young or old? educated or not? Possibly handicapped? Could the post be an attempt at English by a non-English speaking person? Lets be a little less critical until we know all the facts and then all of us can and will feel free to exchange ideas. I mean nothing personal here. Its something I've seen many times occur and just felt a need to say something. MLang on Hawaii

Well....don't let your anger override your better judgement. NASCAR2 is well worth the wait. You send it back, you will miss one of the very best games I have ever seen! I've had mine for 3 days now and I love it. Bob
Agreed, but this newsgroup gets far too many posts for me to waste my time trying to decypher some of the worse examples. Unfortunately, Joel Putty's posts give the impression of being those of an immature individual who somehow thinks ***ing language is "clever". After spending several minutes trying to actually work out one of them, I realised that the thoughts of the writer just weren't worth the considerable effort required to extract them :( FWIW I am very happy to spend effort reading a post that has been written by someone for whom English is a second language but who is obviously making an effort to communicate. Heck, I'm even prepared to put up with all the American spellings ;-) Cheers, Richard

Well, I agree with you on 2 counts, Sierra did give their direct order customers a raw deal, and yes, Sierra does suck <g>. Don't cut off your nose to spite your face though. Not buying Nascar II will hurt you a lot more than it does Sierra. It's an awsome sim (Despite a few annoying bugs), and well worth the money. Just think of it as a Papyrus sim and not a Sierra game :). David You're only young once, but you can stay immature forever.
Dave Bar 08 Dec 1996#346816
Heh heh, don't let him fool you, I think our friend Joel here is basicaly doing a spoof of "Internet idiots" <g>. I remember back in the old days on INN playing Red Baron I had a character called "Wet Noodle" with which I'd basicaly do the same thing. I'd get on line and act like a complete moron (at least I hope it was an act <g>). Man, was it ever fun to get into a match with somebody and clobber them after conning them into thinking I was some nitwit that didn't even know how to work a joystick (Unlike Nascar, I was actually pretty good at Red Baron) <g>. I think Mr. Putty here is basicaly doing the same thing. Probably sitting back laughing his ass off every time somebody responds to one of his posts. Well, have a good laugh Joel, I personally think your posts are hysterical ;-). But, this is a Racing newsgroup, not Red Baron, so here's a topic save: i dont no why every body is asking all oof this quiestions about nasscar 2 i think its is a very eaasy game you just have to go faster then the other cars and then pas them so that you will be first if you do that them you will win the race what is so hard about that anyway god you pepul are dum! WetNoodle David ;-) You're only young once, but you can stay immature forever.

Everbody has got sucked in by Joel. He isn't quite as dumb or smart as you think he is! There used to be software floating around 5 or 6 years ago that would convert what ever you key punched in, to 5 or 6 mumbo jumbo's of your choice. They were based on dialects or mentalities! Obviously, Joel picked the one that served his personality! Some kids never grow up! Pete

Ok guys, let me explain one thing. If you we're Sierra, had a huge product to ship for this Christmas, when it came time to ship it, would you: A) ship it to a few hundred (thousand?) people who pre-ordered it first, wait a couple of days until that's done (maybe longer), losing massive amounts of money because the game isn't in the channel yet, and then ship to the stores or B) ship to the stores (that process is alot quicker since they send pallettes of product to major distributors and they send it into the channel), stop losing that money every day as the game sells in the all important Christmas time, and then, try as hard as possible to get the pre-orders out? If I were running the company I would do it exactly like Sierra did. I think you would too. There is a concious decision to make here, do you want the lower price or do you want the game faster? That's information you can use in future decisions. Adam Papyrus
Tom Hansen 09 Dec 1996#347008
I will defend you on this one - so long as we are talking a week or so delay in shipping individual orders. I pre-ordered to prevent having to race down to the store before they sold out - realizing full well that stores had also preordered and would probably get shipments first. If I do not get a my preordered copy by next week - then I will be unhappy. /THansen

Wow Adam, I am surprised that you really don't know what the pre orders ( number of ) were, or maybe I missed something.. btw, do you have any ideal how many were shipped to the stores, just curious.. I picked mine up on Dec 4th at EB.. was the 2nd person in Indy to have it.. I love the game, YOU GUYS HAVE DONE A GREAT JOB.. YEA!!!! I do wish more people would read the readme file and the manual before posting in the newsgroup.... btw, The pitboard was nice, because it kept your fastest speed posted the whole time and you could see easily that any changes you made were good or bad and if the car was slowing down a little bit.. I know that all this info is available with voice and F1 key, but the pit board kept your fastest speed posted and you did not have to keep it in your head ( years of brain abuse ) Thanks again for a great sim, I am very impressed... btw, do you ( or anybody else that might read this post ) have any neat little files that I might add to my old Indianapolis 500 game? I still enjoy it and my 6yo son plays it all the time.. Keep your head up and pat yourself on the back for a job well done.. JCSpeed

The problem here Adam is that I paid the original $49.95 price and I have to wait. You make a very valid marketing/financial point and it's understandable (however frustrating). However I'm sure you can understand why we are upset when I (like many others I'm sure) called and ordered before I received the upgrade notice (knowing that when the game was released it would be cheaper) I had assumed that there was some benefit to pre-ordering. Like you said, this is information to use in future purchasing decisions. And personally I won't ever order direct again. No flames, just MHO. Steve McCormick Called and cancelled my order today.... Lesson learned.

John Parke 09 Dec 1996#347012
The problem I have had is that Sierra misrepresented their "immediate shipment and delivery" both on the flyer("send me my copy NOW") that was sent out as well as the phone reps. I order last Monday (week ago today) and was told that I would definetely rec'v my copy before the end of the week. After speaking with a supervisor on the order desk (who promised me Thursday that she would get it straightened out and call me back) I still have not heard from Sierra or rec'd my order. If Sierra wants to do a mass shipment to the stores before shipping individual orders, I don't have a problem with that - just be up front with consumers and let them know it would probably be quicker to buy it retail!! And a return call would have been nice, if even to just let me know that individual orders would be delayed for x-amount of time!! My opinion, John Parker
Vocabulary isn't the problem. Neither is language. It's the lack of punctuation and formatting that make your posts hard to read. Try putting a period at the end of each sentence, and capitalizing the first letter of the first word of the next one. Use commas or other appropriate marks to seperate thoughts. What's so hard about understanding that? Anyone with a fifth grade education can, why can't you?
Robert 10 Dec 1996#347301
This isn't an act, is it? You really are this stupid, aren't you? Don't know why we can't understand this ***you call english? Just find a book, or a newspaper. Look at the sentence structure. That jibberish you call a message doesn't even qualify as 5th grade english. How in the world were you able to spell Valvoline, when you couldn't spell easier? Must have a case of it in your room, huh?

> just be up front with consumers and let them know it would >probably be quicker to buy it retail!! I agree. Their advertising implied that people who direct ordered would be the first to get the game. I had ordered the game in September and called last Tuesday when they told me it had shipped that day and would arrive by the end of the week. When it didn't come yesterday, I called again and found out it had been shipped on the 6th. When I asked for a UPS tracking code so I could check on the progress of the order, I was put on hold for a LOOONG time, but did finally get a number and learned that it had, indeed gone onto a truck in California at 4.40 pm on the 6th and should arrive by the 11th. IMHO, that's too long. Everybody else in my league has their copy and I just feel screwed by the whole deal.

For the same reason that you can't ignore our not ignoring him. Besides, the dog is too far away to kick, and I needed to be mean to something. He seems almost as smart as my dog, so I lashed out.
Joel, why do you complain about people not understanding english when you don't even type in english. Why don't you try posting on here like this. Richard, let me ask you and other people something that have a hard time understanding what I say and talk about. Now here what I'm saying ok? Here we go. Why is it so hard to understand when I say a word like modification, positions, babylonian, heck man or even a word you would understand like dog, cat, or house, huh? I mean anyone with a 5th grade education could understand, why can't you? And also you guys talk about how dumb you really thing I am, but yet you're using subject like "Sierra SUCKS!!!!!". I don't have the game yet and I'm not going to get it. And you call me stupid? Let me explain something to people that don't understand what I'm saying. If you can't understand english you shouldn't be on an english newsgroup. Oh, I'm sorry. You don't understand those kinda words? Lets try something easier like Valvoline. Can you say it with me? Valvoline. Come on now I know you can do it. Now if you type like that you're still going to***people off but at least now they will be able to read it. And to everyone else, please don't ask me to translate again. That took me 20 minutes and I have one *** of a headache now. Ugh! Eric Franzen
<snip> Isn't the Internet a great place? Where else can you find a discussion of the English language in rec.autos.simulators? I think everyone's being played for the fool on this one, but I do agree about the lack of structure any fifth grader could use in their writing is totally evident in his posts. Too bad...some valid points might be missed. Kyle
Don Turcott 12 Dec 1996#347816
Papyrus Excellent game Adam, but I don't agree with you on the shipping. I bought mine at CompUSA a week ago for 39.99. That's $2.00 more than Sierra's price. ( 29.99 + 8.00 2nd day ) I assume most people who pre-ordered thought their's would get shipped the same day the game was shipped to retail stores. ( maybe delivery by 12/6) Did any recieve a pre-order before 12/6? How many people would have pre-ordered, paying $8.00 for 2nd day, if they knew stores had were to have it on their shelves Dec. 3rd or 4th but you won't get your 2ND DAY delivery till the following week? Not many!! Exactly what is Sierra's desciption of "2nd day"?? Glad I idin't pre-order! Got mine a week before and only cost me an extra $2.00. Don Turcotte
>Richard let me ask u and people that have a hard time understanding what >i say and talk about now hear what im saying ok here we go >when i say a word like modification, positions, babylonian So you have finally proved that you can spell. I think it would be safe to assume that you infrequently order anything through the mail. They probably have a 1 to 3 day backlog of orders and once it's shipped, it will, in fact take two days to get to you. While I agree that saying "you'll get it in 3-5 days" is the wrong way to disclose these conditions, it's up to you to make sure you completely understand these conditions surrounding the circumstances of shipping your order. In other words, if you had a problem with what they said, it was up to you to ask for clarification. I guess you learned a valuable lesson about ordering an item that's new directly from the company manufacturing that item. In short - don't do it. You'll end up paying more, and you'll end up waiting longer. /*===================================================*/ There are three types of lies... lies, damn lies, and press releases. Fair warning to all trying to return Nascar2 to Sierra, if bought on credit card they will not credit your card account for at least ten working days after they recieve it.

Ten Days, wow that is Great service. We get around 60 days with American Express for airline ticket returns!! This is pretty good service in comparison

Compare that to Intergraph crediting my credit card *the same day* I requested a $50 credit to price match their holiday discount on the Reactor card (I bought it a week before the sale price was announced). Night and day... :) Pick one or more: Model Rockets (competition-NERCB) / PCs (even Atari!) / Papyrus ICR-ICR2-NCR / Who needs a life when you have multiple non-lives?

Don't get your undies in a wad. I ordered mine in early December and got it 1/2/96. It was shipped UPS ground on 12/17 and took 2 weeks and 2 days. Once you get it, all will be forgiven. I just loaded and am getting used to the new one (had original). Got a T2 for Christmas and that is the only way to go. Has anyone loaed their PCX in the driver profile and it works?
