Notable threadPapyrus confirms NASCAR Racing 2 delayed past Thanksgiving

Producer Adam Levesque announced that NASCAR Racing 2 would miss its Thanksgiving target because of multiplayer problems. Several people claimed to have bought it already, and Adam repeatedly and emphatically said it had not shipped, suggesting they had seen the Mac version of NASCAR 1. After release, later posts noted small bugs such as cars appearing to 'inhale'.

Hi all, As you all notice, I haven't been around the newsgroup for a while. We've all been busting our butts trying to get NASCAR 2 out the door. Our original plan was to have the product on the shelves by Thanksgiving weekend. Unfortunately, we ran into some unexpected problems with multiplayer (and a few other areas). Sierra made the decision to hold the product until it was complete. A very good one in my opinion. So, we are now hoping to have the product on the shelves sometime in mid-December (unless something else unexpected happens :)). Sorry I haven't told you all this sooner. As I say, it's been pretty crazy around here. Adam Papyrus

Adam, Thanks for the word!!! I have been pacing around the planet, just waiting to jam on the tracks again. I love Nascar1, but i have to admit, soon as i played the demo for Nascar2, I just don't play Nascar1 as much. I am so fired up!!!!! Thank God we have a awesome company like papyrus that makes such great racing sims as Icr racing, Icr2, and Nascar!!!!! Much more than I can say for the Microprose sims, that just plain SUCK!!!! in my opinion!!!! Nascar2 is just gonna plain ROCK!!!! I have to admit though, that I will have to make a little phone call to that Comp USA, just to kill the pain in my gut!!!!

Adam, You know it's quite interesting that because of this letter you posted a couple of us are getting our butts flamed all over the place, you really should get this straightened out. I bought the game Sunday the 10th, at Comp Usa In Dayton, Ohio... Here's their phone number (937) 436 -5858... Why don't you figure out how they have it when your not done with it. You know it's kind of funny that the guy stocking the shelves with the IBM version of the game said and I quote "We have had a couple of cases in the back room since Thursday, but they said we couldn't put them out till the 10th"... In the mean time I will enjoy playing it on my IBM compatible with my Cyrix 686 processor.

Man, that's weird. After all the rumors that have been floating around the last couple of days, I called Egghead Software here in North Carolina and they said that they had 24 copies in between Sierra and their warehouse. What a crock of... well, you know. CR

Best Buy in Indianapolis told me they had 12 copies this morning but, are sold out already.. I can tell you emphatically that store does NOT have NASCAR Racing 2. Maybe it's the repackaged NASCAR 1, maybe it's NASCAR for the Sony Playstation, maybe it's NASCAR 1 for the MAC. It is not NASCAR Racing 2 for the PC. I am the Producer of that project and I can tell you, we have not gone Gold yet. Adam Papyrus

LOL...Hilarious. There is no 937 area code. Phoney baloney. And I like the unsolicited plug for his Cyrix 686..like that's supposed to be necessary for the purchase of NCR2. KenH

Comp Usa In Dayton, Ohio... Here's their phone number I called the store and they said they didn't have it yet.
I called that Comp USA in Dayton, Oh. and they DO NOT have NASCAR Racing 2 available yet. They are only taking pre-orders for it.
Dave Bar 13 Nov 1996#343625
Indeed. Well, since you seem to be the only one in the world that's been able to acquire a copy, I'm sure you wouldn't mind posting some screen shots. I'd love to see some of Bristol, Sears Point, and Rockingham. No? Didn't think so... David You're only young once, but you can stay immature forever.
Rich Edg 13 Nov 1996#343626
actually, since i looked it up ( ..!..) they are in the process of changing SE ohio area codes 937 is the new one for dayton, i think cincy keeps the 513. good thing i read this, my mother's phone number is different now! :-)
What a pity. Oh well, more time to work on GP2 and ICR2, plus organise a wheel and pedal set. Good luck Adam with NASCAR2, and I hope to see it my mailbox in Australia before 1997 :-) Regards -- Glenn Beaumaris ----------------- "I Believe in God-After All Helen Hunt exists" HELEN HUNT: COOL "The day I got to hand over my tank top to the stunt woman on Twister." Well, the NASCAR with the greenish package is the MAC version, not the PC version. That is also NASCAR 1 for the MAC, not NASCAR 2. Adam Papyrus

Does that mean no NASCAR 2 for the Mac?
Hey guys! While I can't vouch as to whether or not the game is on the shelves I can tell you how my conversation went with Sierra on Wed. I called to see what they had to say about a ship date for my pre-order. They said my copy was on BACK ORDER!!!!! Now last week they used the term "pre-release", so I immediately got worried. I asked to speak to a CSM and when she came on the line I put the pressure to her for an answer. I told her that I had first hand information that the game was in stores and I asked why me and presumably other pre-orders had not shipped first. She didn't have an answer to that question but she did admit that the game had shipped to retailers. Now I don't know if the guy from Ohio actually has the game or not (I don't - everyone here in Memphis is saying the 18th), but it does sound like those of us who pre-ordered did get screwed by Sierra and I told them as much. Like I told the CSM, it won't keep from buying the game but it made me damn glad I got a Reactor instead of their new 3D card! I only hope that it does ship with a Rendition Ready copy on the CD because I sure as hell don't want to have to deal with Sierra anymore than I have to to get it! -- So long and thanks for all the fish..... Ok, ONE MORE TIME, NASCAR 2 has NOT SHIPPED yet. Period. I am the Producer of the project, I can tell you it has NOT SHIPPED, no matter what anyone on-line says. Why is that so hard to grasp? I really don't think it's a very hard concept to understand. IT HAS NOT SHIPPED YET. When it goes Gold, I will post mail here letting everyone know. Adam Papyrus

COMP USA AT THE DAYTON MALL DOES NOT HAVE OR HAS HAD THIS NASCAR2 ITS NOT IN THE STORE IN THE SECERET ROOM IN THE BA***T ANY WHERE. THE BEST DATE I HAVE BEEN TOLD IS AROUND 10TH OF DECEMBER. MAN WHY LIE AND MAKE THIS *** up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've noticed that the stopwatch is missing during pit stops in NASCAR2. If I go to the arcade views it appears, but it isn't there in the normal drivers view. :( Also, I'd really appreciate it if the frame rate "Show Counter" option (on page 64 of the N2 manual) shows up in a future patch. Pick one or more: Model Rockets (competition-NERCB) / PCs (even Atari!) / Papyrus ICR-ICR2-NCR / Who needs a life when you have multiple non-lives?
I assume its just an artifact of N2's 3D engine, but have you noticed the other cars inhaling? No, wait, I haven't been inhaling something... ;) As you pull up alongside a car, the body panels seem to swell, almost as if it took a deep breath. It occurs in both the SVGA and Rendition modes. I'll put a replay in alt.binaries.simulators.auto if you want to see for yourself. The cars don't inhale. This is called sheetmetal buckel. At superspeedways you may be able to notice the sheetmetal get mashed in on the door panels as the air pressure changes around the car. I noticed that a while back when I was racing around C***te. It is a nice touch. Now if they will just put the nice touches back in that they took out of NCR1. David Martin

A good theory (with solid basis in fact even! ;), but how come I can drive past parked cars on the N. Wilkesboro pit lane at 6 mph and see them doing the same thing? I'll stick with the "artifacting" theory. BTW, sorry if I ruined the illusion for you. ;)
