I know, it's only a demo, but I wanted Papy to be aware of some common
things that are happening to folks:
1. It appears that ONLY Intel Pentium processors will work correctly (if
anyone has gotten a P166+ to work, please let me know...I was _just_ about
to buy a P166+ system, but now, I'm switching that over to Intel...)
2. Hercules STB128 Video cards don't seem to work properly
3. On my machine (P100, Trio64, 24MB, SB16), I got no engine sounds at all
(for that matter, no sounds other than the spotter...) I auto detected the
card, and it correctly found it at the proper ports. I'm using Dos 7.0,
booted to Dos Prompt from Win95.
4. Again on my machine (and this is the only instance I have heard of this,
anyone else?) the brightness/contrast is _way_ dark. I can barely see the
RPM gauge.
Otherwise, it looks beautiful...though, I hope the physics are gonna change
somewhat (although Adam was just see posting here that the physics engine
is the way it is, and not to expect more until later games). The Bud at
the Glen is an absolute bang-up job...I love the new textures on the walls.
Keep it up Papy!

NASCAR Racing 2 demo fails on non-Intel CPUs
Users reported that the NASCAR Racing 2 demo appeared to require a genuine Intel Pentium, failing on Cyrix chips and 486s. This led to an argument about Pentium-specific code and whether 486 owners were being abandoned. Speculation that Daytona and Indy entries in the calendar file meant those tracks were coming was dismissed, since NASCAR 1 had the same entries.

means Pentium. My guess is that it was compiled with code to take
advantage of Pentium specific commands. That ain't a bad thing,
though!
did you pkunzip -d option?? the sound needs to be in the proper
sub-directory. if you just pkunzip -d agnnas2, you're all set!
the physics are better than the original, more like the multi, which
is important!!
yeah, wasn't it though?? I hope Talladega's tri-oval is fixed in the
release! ummm, will N.Wilkesboro be in the final release, anyone
know? or Texas or California?

The hell it isnt. Its a bad, unwise, and completely unnecessary thing to
do.

Noone has mentioned this yet, has anyone noticed that the calendar file
includes both Daytona and Indy. If Papyrus included these two tracks in
the calendar file doesn't it makes sense that they are planning to
release those tracks with NCR2 in November?

If you open up the original calendar in Nascar 1, you'll notice Indy and
Daytona are there also, yet they never showed up for original game
(other than Indy thanks to the converters)

Ok, now that I've had time to relax.... :-)
I would like to apologize for my above comment, I still feel the same
why, but I could have found a more mature way of expressing myself.
In reality, if they have developed the sim with the pentium code, it's
likely way too late now to take it all out. I just wonder how sound a
business practice it may turn out to be.....

George, I respectfully disagree... I think that if the final release
is Pentium-specific, it'll be a bad thing for Papyrus. Reason? There
are a lot of Pentium-level clones out there now, and they'll lose that
market.
I have a P120, and am generally pleased with the demo, BTW.
I brought this up earlier and somone said the calendar in Nascar1 was the
sam way. I can't verify this becasue my calendar is way modified now.
Maybe someone else who hasn't messed with their cal file could tell
us....

Okay... It's a demo. They haven't finished the coding yet. While they
develope the code they are running it on Pentiums. Once the have it
running the way they want it (with only a few annoying bugs), they will
compile it so it can run on other processors. If they spent all of
their time tweaking a DEMO to run on various processors, we would never
see the final product (at least not this year).
I agree that not being able to provide a demo that can run on the varied
hardware systems available is not the wisest choice. But, they had to
make a decision. Demo with a Pentium only code or no demo at all.
Since I have a Pentium, I think they made the right choice. If I had a
486, Cyrix, or AMD, I would be GREATLY disappointed. I guess you will
just have to pretend that they decided to not release a demo. I know
this doesn't help you or others in the same boat. But, remember, by not
taking the time to work on the demo, you will be receiving a product
that will run on your machine that much sooner. Hope that helps some.

Upside out, or inside down...False alarm the only game in town.

Us 486 owners are history, according to software companies. I upgraded to a
486dx4/100 last May and for my then-fast system to be obselete to play any
new games (EA, Sierra, etc.) is disgusting. If upgrading a 486 meant just
swapping a $150 chip out, I wouldn't mind, too much, but to upgrade a 486,
you need a new motherboard, video card (PCI) and probably more RAM chips.
Add it up and we're looking at $300 minimum to play a game or two? And then
in a year, the software companies bump up the required platform even
higher. It would be nice to upgrade to a PPro200 now and spend over a grand
and not worry about anything for 2 or 3 years, but who has $1000 just lying
around for this?
I sure hope so. The main thing I want Nascar2 for is the more realistic
qualifying method. I'm satisfied with the current game's graphics. They are
saying a 486/66 with 12MB of RAM will run the finished product in low-res
at least. Let's hope so. Meanwhile, save up or put an upgrade on the
Christmas list. :(

Hi Rich,
I agree. We 486 users were the first to purchase NASCAR Racing when
Pentium was just being released (with the famous chip error). Now we are
unable to play the Demo that we have been awaiting with baited breath.
I'm not sure how much loyalty Papy / Sierra have to the original
customers. If us 486 users hadn't run out to tell all the Pentium users
what an awesome game NASCAR was they wouldn't have bothered makind a new
version.
I hope that we "original" users are capable of running NR2 without
spending 500+ for upgrades. I have purchased every Papy sim their is as
well as the Track Pack and expect to be remembed as a loyal customer.

from what I've heard will not be released initially with NCR2 but they've
hinted that there may be a 2 track Track Pack early next year when Sega's
rights run out on Daytona. We can only cross our fingers!

On the interview with Adam Levesge (however it's spelled) on allgames.com
he mentions that 8 tracks were completely re-done and the other 8 were
improved. He states that there are no new tracks. Sigh. OH well. Track
Pack jr???????
